Peritonitis

I know about long term steroids in humans, but not so much horses I'm afraid! Although it sounds like the issues are fairly similar from what you've mentioned.

At least she's started to perk up and be a bit more normal, seeing her quality of life improving must feel good :)

I'm sure there will be someone else on these forums who has had a horse on long term steroids who can offer a bit more personal experience :)

Was the thing on the white blood cell test an Eosinophil? If my brain is still working from revision-itis, I believe you get a raised eosinophil count in parasitic infections with humans. (Amongst other things)

Hello yes your right about endophils (not sure spelling) had 2 wormers and liver fluke stuff too. Hoping to have covered all forms of parasites. I do wonder if was parasite once cleared out of system would it then mean still inflamation etc which steriods may help repair? Im going to phone the vet on monday and ask!

Hello!

Its been a while. Well there may be light at the end of this long tunnel. AFter 4 wks of steriods we went back to the Bush on Friday. Test results showed Tia was nearly normal again! Weaning her off the steriods this wk and then wait a month to retest to see if its fixed. Vet said that theyd contacted the Glasgow branch and spoken to a very good retired vet who had only seen a similar thing in Africa! It could be she's picked up a parasite somewhere that isnt really one we have bother with in horses. If the problem comes back she can remain on the steriods for the rest of her life! So heres hoping the problem will be fixed. I may never know the cause but I can accept it if she is better!!
