First world problems but I've had a bit of tough week and would like a moan please? My life is like a bad Craig David song.
It all started last Sunday. I had organised a clinic for my riding club and was really looking forward to it, only to be met with a flat tyre. I tried to change it but couldn't budge the the wheel nuts so called my breakdown service. They couldn't loosen the wheel nuts either. All they could do was recover me to a tyre place but there were none open so I was stuck at home all day. They sent a mobile tyre fitter on Monday who didn't have the right size sockets on his pneumatic tyre drill thingy. Finally got taken to a tyre place on Tuesday where they changed it for the spare but said I would need 5 new tyres very shortly so bit the bullet and spent £800 on those. They had to be ordered so OH took it on Thursday to have them all changed.
Tuesday, I had a root canal - another £300 and it STILL hurts nearly a week later!
Wednesday, the alternator went on our camper van and, although it's under warranty, the company will only pay for a set number of hours of labour. The garage say it will take twice as long so we have to pay the difference - another £250.
Thursday, on they way home from having the tyres done, my car started making a whooshing noise - turbo hose had split. Made arrangements to take it to garage on Friday to replace it - only a half hour job, they'd do it while I wait. Plan was was to come to work, make arrangements to leave early and get it done in time to get M and go to riding club where we were the guinea pigs for a demo we were putting on. On the dual carriageway on the way to work the engine management light came on and I lost power - with the huge lorry up that was right up my backside nearly crashing into me. It had gone into 'limp home' mode and wouldn't go above 20mph. Limped into work, called recovery and told garage it was coming on a truck instead of with me (luckily owner is OH's friend). They promised to have it done by 3 and I got my dad to pick me up to go to collect it.
Made it to the yard roughly when I had originally intended and congratulated myself for dealing with the day's tribulations and getting to the yard ON TIME! Got M in, marvelling at his beautiful trot as he came to call, got him ready and off we went ON TIME! Made it to the demo ON TIME! There were 40 odd people there. The physio started with her talk, then it was time for me to go and get M. Got on him, wandered about a bit to warm up and then started to trot..... Lame. I could have died. We had no back up horse. Luckily it was a physio demo (for humans on horseback) so we could still do the rest of it but all that effort to get there for that. Took him home very deflated and exceptionally cold at 10 pm.
Saturday morning gave him a thorough check over and trotted him up. I was taking A to the vet with a bad eye so thought I could throw M on too if needs be. Trotted up sound as a pound. Rode him yesterday and still sound. It seems he just likes to embarrass me.
Took A to vet, and there's 'something' going on. No scratch to surface, and iris is fine but the lens is irritated. He has a small, partial cateract which vet says could have been there forever, could be starting to form now or could be a temporary reaction to the irritation. So that's another £150 and steroid drops 3 TIMES A DAY for a week. I'm getting him in in the morning, rushing out of work at lunchtime to do his eye and turn him out (as finding him and gettting him can take up to 40 mins at the moment) and then going back up in the evening.
I know these are all minor issues and I should be grateful that, while shelling out £1500 with nothing nice to show for it isn't nice at all, I can afford it but I really think I deserve a bit of good luck now.....please?
