Pet hate - people riding ponies who take the P!

[ QUOTE ]
Devonlass1 - you are coming across as extremely up your own arse, I think that is what's getting everyones back up

[/ QUOTE ]
Gosh people are sensitive. All she did was offer someone a lead. I certainly wouldn't have taken offence.
And as it happens I hold a rather dim view of several aspects of NH as well..

and what's wrong with natural horsemanship?..............

[/ QUOTE ]

Nothing until it puts people in the situation that this lady is in with her pony.

[/ QUOTE ]

But the thing is I don't see where the evidence is that this lady is somehow at fault because of NH. Her horse was barefoot - so are many, many horses who are ridden traditionally, and many NH practitioners will use shoes if appropriate.

The necklace thing doesn't sound like any sort of NH equipment that I know of, what it does sound like is Rhythm beads, which Kerilli posted about a while ago - they looked flamboyant and extravagant but apparently are used to help a horse to go in an even tempo. Its not really a NH thing, although I'm sure both traditional and NH practitioners would use them if they so desired.

devonlass, I think it was nice of you to chat to her AND offer her assistance - it would be a bloody sad world if we all just left each other to it!

[ QUOTE ]
Look, I know enough about IH/AH thankyou very much. Your words are totally wasted on my because I think it is about the biggest pile of shite going, and pity people who take to it- like this poor woman mentioned in original post, who seems to be struggling with her horse because of it. Said pony needs a kick forwards, not a bloody carrot stick wiggling at it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yet again you are mentioning Parelli, what I am trying to say to you is that there are many forms of Natural Horsemanship, Monty, Pat are the tip of the iceberg. So please do not condemn it all just because you don't like Parelli, open you mind and show a little tolerance.

[ QUOTE ]
Has no one ever excepted help from a stranger before? I certainly have and the world will be a sad place when people stop offering it.

I would gladly take up the offer of a lead down the lane if I had a 7 year old taking the micky out of me. All too often people hack past all toffey nosed and really we all need to help each other and stick together.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would probably find it quite patronising, after being told that the other person's horses were 5 and 6 (in a patronising context), to be offered 'a lead' down the lane for my 7 year old horse. I would find it even more patronising to be offered this in a patronising manner, by a patronising person. Is that patronising enough?

Sometimes people just want to be left alone, and if being told once that you don't want to go on with other horses is not enough, then maybe she just has to keep drumming it into the OP.

How do we know that this horse goes well in company? This woman knows her horse best and perhaps has the interests of the OP at heart.

Nope, I know there are more than Parelli, and what I am trying to say to you is that I wouldn't entertain any of them, and there is no point taking this conversation any further because I absolutely point blank hate all of that crap. Good evening.

[ QUOTE ]
Who the hell is suggesting, that the reason this woman is having problems with her horse, is because of NH????

[/ QUOTE ]
I think it was the necklace thing BUT it might just've been because we like arguing about it

How sad to be so closed to alternative ideas and methods, I think when you get older you might be a little more tolerant, or not!

This isn't even about NH - so can we stick at least roughly to the topic (unless we're all transfixed by the thought of PF in her bathers...)

[/ QUOTE ]
It's not about you perving on PF either!!

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, because people have used NH/IH/AH because maybe they couldn't bond with their horse by other methods, without it, they would be completly stuffed, its personal preference, dont be so arsey.

Just saying. I know we all like to debate NH and the P word and any excuse etc etc but now can we please get back to PF and her merry men?

Devonlass I too think you were very kind in your offer of asssitance to this lady and her pony, I cannot think why she would not take you up on it - seems a sensible solution to me, let your horses give her nappy one a lead.
You have had some very harsh comments here tonight I normally don't get involved when the HHO vultures are out, but I felt you could do with the support.
I think you should just put this one down to experience there is nothing as strange as folk and all that, if you see this lady again smile say hello and get on with your horses, maybe she will still be stuck with her napping pony when you're on your way home or maybe she have gone home to wave a carrot stick at it who knows, I know who will be having more fun with there horses.

i can't help it, she so buxom!!!!

QR - If I looked like I was struggling riding on the road then I would not be offended at all if someone offered to give me a hand. I don't think I would find it patronising, I would probably be grateful.

If I didn't want or need the assistance I would say thank you and carry on doing it my own way but I doubt I would be outraged that someone would dare to offer help

No, I will not. I'm an oldschool PC, my parents have a hunting yard, the way I was brought up works very well for me. So until all of the skills and methods I practice now begin to fail me, I shall stick to the stuff that gets me results I want.

There is no evidence to say it was a NH rider...

I appreciate you were probably trying to help but has it occurred to you that she may have wanted to sort the problem out herself without a lead? Last thing I would do with a nappy pony would be to give in and follow someone! There may not be someone to provide a lead the next time I got in trouble.

Your post smacks of someone who does not approve of Adults riding ponies, as a 14.2 rider and owner of some bigger ones, get off your high horse!! You do sound very much up your own and that your superior knowledge entitles you to judge this woman.

I hate NH but it has its place! Even our old P2P horse had beads to chill him out, worked a treat!

That's absolutely fine that you have methods that work for you, I don't have a problem with that in the slightest, but to condemn all NH whether you agree with it or not, is not too impressive!

NH and parelli have their place but they are not the be all and end all, I think many years ago they were more geared towards problem horses, now they are just out to make money, and boy they are doing well!

I think its tosh to be honest, having tried some it, join up is great, other than that, the rest is very clever marketing.

Yup, it's the OP that people have taken offence to. The post which I assume was designed to get people responding in a 'gosh, how awful, that woman should not be allowed horses' kind of way.

I too am grateful when offered help, but when I say no or indicate I'd rather be left alone, I like it to be respected and certainly would hate to think I was the subject of a 35 page post on HHO.
