Petition to get rid of the intrusive ads on the forum.

The ads down the side are not a problem. But that add that kept popping up and blocking the page is. I gave up last night and went elsewhere. It would not stay away and I could not find a way of turning it off.
 
Firefox adblocker is your friend!

That said, the other day I was using a computer with a version of Firefox too ancient to support adblocker and an operating system too ancient to support Google Chrome, and the forum was horrid to use. So I didn't.

What about the H&H classifieds that are being shoved to the bottom of the page by the intrusive x box and coffee ads that almost deafen you when the cursor comes within an inch of them.

HHO should be thinking of their direct customers...else they may find that people stop using HHO to adverise on

I agree completely with this and would add that the advert under discussion is not just annoying, it is so intrusive that it has made using the forum (both reading and posting) very difficult tonight. I have the sound turned off on my laptop most of the time and it was bad enough when i could only see the ad but when I realised how noisy it was as well, I did think that actually this will be couhnter-productive as many advertisers are going to loser viewers as a direct result of such an intrustive ad.
 
Nope - the forum needs to support itself somehow. When removing adverts is as simple as installing Adblock I don't see why we should be insisting they change their policies.

But if everone installs ad block - then the forum will die anyway.... as no one will want to pay to advertise on it - and if they dont get the traffic they will withdraw the adverts any way...therefore the fourm will die ......

so i am happy to look at adverts - i just want the choice of opening them or not !

Some of us don't mind seeing adverts, in fact I quite like them, I've even bought things from ads I've seen on here, to block them all would be a loss to me, but the intrusive ones that block usage of the forum are the issue..

There was need - I'd typed that reply at least once before on this thread, as had others...

And I'm rolling my eyes at Shadeyoak too! A flat, read only ad, on a forum or a mag is fine, and very different to the one in question. You've obviously not seen the ad in question function and have no idea what the rest of us are on about..

ps, this thread is getting as annoying as the ad, lol! I'm going away for 10 days now, hope its not here when I get back!

And how many of us have seen a nice horse at the side of the forurm and gone and had a look ?? i know i have.

And if i am advertsing i would want the biggest bang for my buck - and the ads runnng at night for horses - have far less room than those that run in the day - so they are killing there own market ???

Exactly and I can't think there is a huge demand for x-box games on a horsey forum dominated by women.
 
But if you block pop-ups you will only block the annoying ones that stop you using the forum and not the H&H classifieds etc which surely solved the problem?

I do think it is pretty funny that people think they can demand how a FOC forum is run- if you don't like it use pop up blocker or an ad-blocker or do what you are threatening to do and just stop using the forum.

how does that work the annoying ads are in exactly the same column as the HHO ads- and i have firefox and i cant turn the ads off - so it is not a threat not to use the forum, i just leave it when they ads come on- and like i say if the advertisers dont get the traffic to there ads they will stop advertising and the forum will shut any ways - so we all loose out

ohhh - that was scary ??? i have removed the allow pop ups from hho ???? hubby will kill me tonight if i have screwed it up
