Thanks guys!
They are my best quote so far, but require a BVA mortality cert, the cost of which makes it equal to the quote given to me by NFU.
OC, I hadn't thought of KBIS, will give them a call too

I have used KBIS in the past and they were really unhelpful about paying out (mortality claim for a horse on loan, they would only pay out to the owner etc etc etc)
I never claimed from Petplan luckily, but I would always vote for NFU they were great for me
I've had my horse with Petplan for 8 yrs. Customer service always very helpful and when he had a sacroilliac strain requiring a bone scan etc they forked out over £4K no problem. Only good experiences for me............
I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Friends horse had a lump on her tail, which was removed with out a problem, jsut a small cyst. Few years later horse suddenly became very ill, died, post mortem revealed cancer, wouldn't pay out because of a completely unconncected cyst a long time before which hadn't even been claimed on although they were notified...
They've been fab to me over the last year. I can't fault them. They paid out a fortune for Spider. Plus Q managed to join in the fun (think he felt left out
) & they paid out promply for all 3
of my claims with out quibble.
Very helpful too when I was having a tough time. No silly exclusions either - only what you'd expect.
This thread's very useful as I'm thinking of adopting an older horse, and the rescue organisation recommended them to me.
I got an online quote from them, which was surprisingly low, and they sent me a pack with a proposal all filled out ready for me to sign. Bit of a cheek, but then car insurance bods hassle you for weeks on the phone, after you get a quote online, and won't go away, so maybe this is a better way of trying to get your business.
Anyone any eperiences with PetPlan and the senior horse?
Mixed views. Petplan took a long time and were very argumentative about paying out when I had my 8yr old TB pts with a ruptured collateral ligament injury. Despite newmarket advising him being pts petplan wanted him turned away for another year.
NFU were great, paid out lots but then once I came to renew put premiums through the roof and had many exclusions. So excellent but once you've claimed once not economical.
KBIS are fab, they've just paid £5k on a current injury and my premiums barely went up when I renewed.
I have a 29 year old who they pay out on - every time he kicks himself! They definately have the best Veteran policy on the market even if you can't take advantage of the new 'insure with them before X age and keep full cover up to 25 (i think), this came out when my boy was too old, but even their accidental/external damage system is the best and cheapest on the market.
Both my lads are with Petplan and through my experience of them so far I would wholly recommend them.
Have also been recommended NFU by a few friends as well.
haven't read all the replies, BUT my exeriences.........EXCELLENT, paid out within 7 days, very good. They are more expensive, BUT in my case, I only got what I paid for, Well worth it.x
