I have always been insured with Petplan and cannot fault their pay out as one of my horses maxed out 2 claims on vets fees. I bought a new horse nearly a year ago (I have 4 insured with petplan currently) and have made no claims over the last year but the renewal had shot up over £100 more than it was last year. I have since shopped round for prices and NFU on a like for like policy (apart from they only pay 50% of mri) is over £150 cheaper. What is peoples thoughts and experiences with NFU? I dont want to risk moving to NFU because it is cheaper to find they are difficult if I ever did have to claim!

I have spoken to petplan to explain that I have had a cheaper quote and the only way they can reduce the cost is by reducing my vets cover or value of the horse, which I obviously dont want to do!!

cant fault nfu i have 2 covered by them and had huge claims going through for both at the same time and they paid up quick

Cannot fault NFU - have never had to claim on mine but a friend of mine had three claims running on her insurance at the same time, and they were brilliant about paying out.

Also paid out in full when the horse had an accident and had to be put down, despite the fact he was recovering from colic surgery and so could have claimed he was worthless.

Had to claim a few times and had very good service and prompt payment throughout with NFU. Also, they pay vet bills directly rather than you having to fork out which i know some companies do.

A few months ago there were a lot of posts on here re NFU being very slow and the premiums being hiked up alarmingly. I did change to Petplan as they were cheaper. A friend claimed last year from NFU and they paid up without problems

NFU MRI restriction is definitely being lifted, will double check effective date on Wednesday when I'm back in but I have a feeling its 1st May

If you are an National Farmers Union member remember that gets a substantial discount on your premium ;-)

Nfu pay 100% Of MRI's as of now, my horse had one couple of months ago.
I've been with them for years and claimed thousands!
Have found them to be very very prompt and very helpful indeed.

i would now be wary of NFU. i have just posted re how much my premium has gone up, i have never claimed and they are introducing conditions which makes it harder to claim. i had similar experiences with pet plan before - hence why i moved to NFU!

Im with NFU, they paid out for a claim last year with no problems, and their customer service and help was great. Never had any problems with them.

Just called and sorted out my new insurance with NFU :) Petplan's answer to reducing my price was to cut the level of vets cover etc...erm the NFU is like for like with my current policy for less money :p I'm looking forwards to my other three coming up for renewal now I could be saving myself a small fortune!!!

Just bear in mind that it may be a good deal this year but next year the premiums are likely to go up. Mine with NFU have just gone up by 50% and I have never claimed. Just got quotes with petplan which are closer to what I am currently paying i.e. nearly 50% less. A few years ago I moved from petplan to NFU because petplan put my premiums up. Horse insurance seems to be like every other type of insurance now - you have to move every year to get the best deals.

Yeah I am fully prepared for moving somewhere else next year!!!

I've been an NFU customer for many years.
I've had multiple claims on a number of horses.

I have never ever had a problem with their level of service or them paying out.

Last year they hiked my premiums up massively, on a horse that has never had a claim. I dithered about moving my business, got several quotes off other companies, but when push came to shove I stayed with NFU.

I had a lot of claims with the NFU, also 2 claims for loss of animal within a year. I went with Petplan with my new horse and I have LOU for the same premium I paid with the NFU without it.
