Photos of Ex- Racers

This is Dylan aka hermitage court - he is 9 years old ,bred in the states and as phoebe buckley put it - a big gay chestnut who would try to catch you even if you did fall off :D

this is his favouritist thing in the world but occasionally we dress him up and do this as well

and this is my little 3 year old who I have since sold but would have loved to have kept as he was such a dude :D

He raced under the name daft lad :D but we named him Rio. He is 3.5 yo now by Danbird . I bought him unseen from a reply to a wanted ad I had placed and although I thought what the hell is that when he wlaked off the lorry ,he has grown 3 inchs and gone from a medium to an extra wide saddle in 6 months (he is actually a cob in tb clothing :D ) he hacks like a dream and is just generally an all round love - just don't mention the shoeing

can't wait for project number two next year :D

Ah, he's a beaut! Capall Dorcha means "dark horse" in Irish (I guess you probably know that!) does exactly what it says on the tin ;)

Aaah, the yard did tell me what it meant and I promptly forgot! Ta for the reminder!

He is rather lush - fingers crossed and touch wood he seems to have good feet too for a TB. It's a good job he's pretty as he really isn't very bright! :D I was originally looking for something to bring on and probably sell on, but once i'd seen him I knew he was mine and there's no way he'd ever get sold on!!

Some more piccys :D

Sorry for the major pic over load,

Is that Stanneylands? Looked at a horse there a couple of years back

Here's mine! Raced for a season on the flat, never won anything! Then spent a few years as a riding club horse/hack before I got him 2 months ago! He's called Sparkie, raced as Soft Gold.

A few weeks after I got him (bad riding!):

A little unsure of the photographer!

This is my first post about him, hope there will be more to come!
:):):)

This is my boy. Picture taken last year, before he was diagnosed with kissing spine, navicular, PSD, arthritic changes to many of his joints ....
I discovered it, after his bronking episodes got really bad, and I had the vet out, who sent him in for x-rays and scans to confirm if the bahviour was pain related or not. I decided to retire him after he was diagnosed, and he is no longer having to do anything which hurts, and he's a pampered pet now.

millhouse: He is called Seaforde, raced mainly in Ireland, won on the flat, over hurdles over fences and point to point. Has an absolute dreamy canter and as shown a fabulous jump!!!:D

Thanks Rowenna. It is always nice to know their racing names. He certainly stands off well.

Hello - first post for me - but couldn't resist adding my bit!! Nice to see such lovely looking TBs. I've had mine for three months now - been a bit disappointed by the negativity surrounding TBs and ex-racers - so absolutely delighted to see such stunning photographs!! As I said, got mine three months ago, he was imported from Spain last year - raced in November - didn't fare too well - and was shipped off to the Ascot sales where he was bought by the woman who I got him off. Having previously owned a cob before, I'm delighted with Otis who is a delight on and off the ground. Having not ridden for several years, its probably me who needs to the schooling - particularly when it comes to hacking. Not that he's ever tanked off - its the sudden spooking which gives me half a heart attack!! But we can work on that!!! We've also done lots of work on STANDING STILL too as I'd get half a leg over (!) and he'd be off! Ha!! He's a quick learner and is worming his way into my life well and truly!!

Anyway, meet Otis - 4 year TB gelding, race name Hotski.

Now... can someone tell me how to add bl**dy photographs?!!?!?!?!? In meantime, compromised by adding pic as avatar!!!

Here's Waterside Inn the day he came to me from Ireland (Noel Meade), he was supposed to be *said in best Irish accent* "Sure now, he's a grand little hoss":

DSC01817.jpg

But he was a grand big hoss! I'm 5'9! :D So i named him Shorty!

He was an absolute diamond of a horse, i was going to keep him, but Enigma stole my heart, so i couldn't keep them all. I had him for 2 years though and had so much fun reschooling him Luckily he is now loved by a friend of mine.:)

First ride (keeping things familiar to him... i am very lucky to have use of our polo club's exercise track):

love looking at photo's of retired racers in their new roles.

This is mine, Bud aka Glory of Love, raced on the flat and then over hurdles, never won but always tried his best. I got him straight from his trainer as he'd been used as his hack then turned away until it was decided whether he'd be kept by them or find a new home, thankfully for me, he found a new home, he has the most fantastic nature and adores my youngest.

at a local show this year, my youngest daughter had taken him in the young handlers class and got 5th with him, he was being untacked/tacked up ready to go jumping.

before a dressage test, I think he was watching intently to see what to do....

the day after he arrived, I decided to see what he'd be like in the indoor school

Great post peeps..best breed ever.. here's my boy, 16'1 Gelding Pablo tried hunting down his past but no such luck..he was bred to race & has a Weatherby's microchip but was never registered with them.. he was then past to a dealer & brought to the UK from Ireland..I reckon he may have been a steeplechaser becauseof his build..

And here's Bonita, my mum's mare, raced under the name of Bellamanda, raced 3 times but she couldn't be bothered & didn't win anything, we got her as a 4 year old, she was real racing weight at the time..now she's like a muscle machine, lol..

this is Prophets Star (raced under that name), was a useless racer but fortunately loves dressage. he's the absolute apple of my eye and constantly forgiven for being an over excitable tit to hack!

he'll be moving up to mediums and 6yo young dressage horse classes in 2011,proving you dont need a warmblood for dressage!

if he wasnt registered, he wouldnt have been able to race. So he couldnt have raced under any rules of racing before you had him.

Ex-racers, I hear you say? Oh, go on then!! Here's Baz, aka First Friend. 9yo gelding by Mark of Esteem ex a Busted mare. Grade one winners on both sides, a couple of wins (by a country mile) but really couldn't be bothered in the end and never lived up to his potential!!

This is in when I got him just over 2 years ago:
