I really want to see some photos with ideal topline and muscle structure?

I find it really hard to distinguish on horses, so would like some photos and explanations and hopefully i can judge my own mares, because i think hes isn't very good after reading many online forums! Have added a photo anyway, so when you upload yours i can compare my mares 'topline' its not a very good photo, all sweaty after a 15mile ride, but the only one to hand right now!

Thanks guys!

This is my lad, I think he has a reasonable topline, he still needs to get stronger behind the saddle, but he's getting there, I am pleased with him as he's just getting back after being off work for 6 months and then hacking only until the last 8 weeks or so!:)

Not the best topline in the world, but a world away from where we started as a stargazer!

(not me riding in this pic- my brother in law. He did amazingly well, as he is a novice, and Whisper is NOT an easy ride! :p)

She had only recently come back into work, so excuse the "baby belly"

could not possibly comment on topline from that photo...

Sorry, only photo I've really got currently. Here's a photo of her in the middle of winter last year, so obviously less muscle as she wasn't doing much work and hadn't started working in a outline when this was taken.

I have been thinking about this too, I would love to see some good before and after pictures! My horse is on the skinny side at the mo and gradually building up work but as Haflingers are so often fat, I am not sure what a really well muscled fit and slim one would look like!

HAHA, love it guys! that just made my day! He gets comments like that everywhere we go, he's even been asked to sign autograph books!

She's 9, but she was rescued last year and was brung back into work, as she hadn't been ridden since she was 4! We are doing lots of hillwork, and fun rides but cant seem to improve it, and thing is, i still cant see the difference in bad/good toplines.. I'm rubbish!

Tess has always had a nice neck :)

Not a brill pic i know (p,s she was pregnant here not obese) :D:o

and such a hairy yack pony !

But topline is not just the neck guys, it also means the shoulders, loins (particularly), back and croup/quarters - everything on top, in other words

This is what I get confused on, many say "my horse has a nice neck/back" but I always thought that's what topline was too.
Where is my mare lacking seriously, is it particularly her lions and on her back I think?
I cant feed any build up feeds, as she keeps up to perfect weight with no hard food and out 24/7 and she gains weight easily, any other ideas?

I'm going to look at badminton trot up photos now, FAB idea!

Not the greatest musculature (unfit), but this horse has a good basic structure. And yes, I know he has no tail - it's a long story.

Thanks for photos! Easier to see.. How do you improve your horses toplines without giving them build up feed? Shes schooled once a week, jumped once, and hacked 4 times a week with lots of hillwork.. and does pleasure rides recently. What am I doing wrong? She works in a lovely outline in her Pelham or a hanging cheek..
