Pics- cracked hoof thread, after trim pics

It just gets my goat when people take a photo on face value and say 'the farrier must take more hoof off', just dangerous IMO. I'm not saying it's a great trim, but could be the farrier took the heels down further than usual because his client was asking him to take more off, and had to then trim the frogs to be lower than the heels, who knows? We don't know the full story and I for one do not trust anyone who's not qualified/suitably experienced in trimming professionally, to give advice over the net, and most of those wouldn't give advice over the internet anyway because photos are so notoriously misleading! ok, mini-rant over now :p

And yes, completely agree, no horse should bear all it's weight on the sole, the walls serve a purpose too.

Thanks everyone :-) I'm going to stop panicking and give the minerals and hoof treatment a chance to work. He will be lightly backed this summer too so starting to do some long lining etc and I think the exercise will be good for his feet. Hope so anyway! :-)

Good luck. Remember that if you lightly tap the foot with a hammer, you will hear a 'hollow' sound over the affected area if the seedy toe has caused extensive separation. In that case, it would be an x ray job to check what's going on.

It is rare for that to happen, but as you know, it did happen to Flymermc's horse and mine.
