Piriton (or other antihistamines) for urticaria/allergies?

Ok, farty (sorry, your name is too long)
If she is a new headshaker, then you need to check a few other things first - teeth need checked by a vet or qualified dentist, you need to check that she is not in pain in her back or poll, and that her tack does fit her, without putting pressure on her withers, poll etc.
Only then do you start thinking about hayfever or seasonal allergies, and trying the various remedies mentioned.

I have just read the Equiwinner website, and to be honest, I wouldn't waste my money...

My mare, who has been with us about a year, started shaking her head when ridden last week-end. I looked carefully at the bit and could find nothing wrong. So when I was preparing to ride yesterday (haven't ridden in the week owing to work, meetings, weather) I asked sister (YorksG) to check because I still couldn't feel/see any problem but had remembered that she did this once before when she had a tiny scratch on the bit.
Eventually sister found a rough patch, which when I held it in a different light I could actually see on the sweet-iron.
So I would suggest checking your tack etc very, very carefully.

I have used a packet of piriton on H when she had repeated urticaria last year - Since moving her she's not had any signs of the swollen head/throat or weels so I'm putting it down to the straw that she was bedded on - She recovered really quickly when she was fed the piriton.

I assume this wasn't aimed at me?
My barbed wire bit is just fine.

Only in that I was agreeing with your earlier post about checking tack before using nosenets/anti-histamines etc.
How do you find your barbed-wire bit? I'm struggling to find a bit that my mare is comfortable with but listens to enough to stop.
Would you recommend barbed-wire? And if so can you recommend a stockist?

Firstly, you don't want to be seen agreeing with the likes of me - it's bad for your reputation.
Secondly, my horse has always been very talented at rein-back, and has even offered levade on a few occasions instead of half-halt.
I twist my own bits from oxidised metal fencing, I am sure it works to encourage salivation in the same way that sweet iron and aurigan, etc do.

Ah I see thank you.

Unfortunately we have dry-stone wall all round us, don't suppose that's much use for bit making

I really need a bit with cheek-pieces - is it possible to make these from barbed wire (if I ever find any) ?
My mare decided to try pirouette today in an argument over direction
