Basically just that,
Should I Plait the night before or the morning (WITH BANDS) of the show?
What do you HHOs do?

I always do the morning as Pip finds it horrific enough being plaited for any length of time

Dads ponies are done the morning as he doesn't like them left in. OK- Untill over a 3DE plus vetting you plait 14 manes and 4 tails.... I'm sure they'd be left in if it was him doing it!

Well, i put night before but then we band rather than braid (don't ask - little pigtails on western horses!) and they need to be squashed in place with a hood unless you're an expert.
If I was plaiting the night before a hood is definitely the way to go, no horrid shavings/flax/straw in the mane the next morning!
The one time I have plaited my mare recenlty I did do it on the morning, but it was a late time for a dressage test precisely 1 mile away!

I plait the night before but leave the plaits down, Then I roll them up in the morning. Unless it is a late start in which case I plait on the day.

Well Genie usually just has one behind her ear when in M&M, so that's easy to do on the morning. When doing ridden cob I do a running plait down her mane and then plait her tail all the way down and bang it up. I always do this on the morning (if cob is first), or at the show in between classes. Personally would only go as far as doing the braids in the mane the night before and then replait any that have gotten messy and sew them up and do the tail in the morning if I absolutely had to.

I plait the night before as my plaits look much neater if they spend the night under a hood, also if i have 6 to do and leaving at 4am I would have to start at 10pm anyway!!

I plait in the morning - I'm pretty well practiced and it only takes 10 mins or so. I don't like to change my mare's routine and she is out at night in the summer, so there would be no point turning her out plaited!

In the winter, when I plait the hunters, I do them the night before but put double bands on to keep the plaits tight.

If you put a pair of bog-standard tights over the plaits the night before, and simply put a band over each plait it'll keep them in without rubbing

I always plait the night before, but I leave them down and just roll them up in the morning. Usually too stressed to do anything taxing like plaiting!!

Well, I ALWAYS use thread (been bought up showing!). If I have a competition, I will usually plait the night before. However, if it is for showing, I will do it in the morning.

Thankfully, eventing doesn't run a best turned out competition!!

Me too - I cannot plait with bands at all!

I plait my own the day of a show, but I also get paid to plait others so generally do them the night before. I always sew mine

I always plait the night before unless its a late start in the morning and I use thread and put a hood on and turn out. I have a mostly white horse so I have to do damage control on the white bits in the morning.

:biggrin3::biggrin3: tickles me when these zombie threads get resurrected and the icon shows that I replied first time round - I can never remember what I wrote

(I still plait mine in the morning :p and I plait Kira when I get to the show if I'm going to plait at all, as her golf ball sized plaits fall out quite easily)

I can never understand how people find them to reply. I get it when someone has a similar question as they've obviously searched for the topic but not when it's just contributing generally to a thread!
