I took down some long length of electric tape fencing on Saturday leaving two parellel lines of electric fencing tape on the ground. The following morning I found them twisted round each other. I assume that the wind must have done this. Could the cause of this be what causes plaits in horses manes?

Ollies mum, hope you have had you're fence microchipped? I wouldn't rely on that, they have special & mystical ways that work on any fence. If your fence bites, have you had its battery checked by a dentist? Or its posts checked by a vet? I also urge you to scope for wood rot. If all else fails you need to do joinery-up.STOP blaming your fence!

Ooh Littlelegs how very dare you, you don't know me or my fence! That fence has had everything money can buy - even it's own custom reel to be put away on in winter and I dread to think how many batteries it's killed  Some fences are just plain bad!

I doubt my electric fence would go with just anyone, it would fight back- it regularly has a go at biting me ;)

Biting is unacceptable from any fence  Clearly you need to be firmer with it - I assure you a sharp bop on the fence for biting will NOT make it post shy

(this thread is awesome :D)

I had to go for a little cry there because of being bullied :( I'll have you know I'm no novice fence owner and I've had that fence since it was a mere thread. I notice there's no sympathy for the batteries it's killed is there? It's positively twisted in it's old age

No I'm sorry but you have to accept responsibility for your fence's behaviour. You say you've grown it yourself, you erected it, you looked after it - you are responsible for its training and you have failed. It's shameful that you have allowed it to murder harmless batteries in the first place.

You've left yourself no option. It's time to have it put down.

Put it down! Despite it's faults that fence has been a good and faithful servant - yes I know I'm making excuses for it now but this it the attitude all too common these days - it's old and ragged so bring on the new model. When it comes down to it I can't do it, I just can't. Maybe it could be re-homed somewhere that it wouldn't get handled quite so much? Any offers to take it on?

That's a little harsh JFTD ! She obviously cares about the fence and she is only asking for ideas. I think you have been a little too quick to judge .I think you ought to have a little more compassion and pray to god that you never find yourself in the same position as this poor lady and her fence.

Oh yes she cares so much about it that she wants to pass it on to someone else to look after  The poor fence will probably end up going for wood - or worse end up abused and neglected in a field somewhere  There are worse things that putting it down. I would have the balls to put it down rather than risk an uncertain future for an old fence who's given all it can :(

Just typical. People theses days just give up at the first sign of trouble. I supported you madam, defended you against the harsh JFTD and all the time you were plotting to off load the poor fence on me. Shame on you, do you really want to see the poor thing being passed from pillar to post in it old age ?

I assume you have had its posts checked and the current optimised. Honestly how some people come on here and ask other forum members for advice when obviously they should be phoning the fencer. totally irresponsible.

I found a plait in one of the horses manes today. I hope here's still there in the morning :(

And my friend found her tape in knots, she's keeping an eye on it, we're really worried :(

Oh well pardon me to all the people out there with the perfect fences, one of these days you'll know what it's like when your bottom strand sags and then you won't be mocking me.
