Please...Can Anyone Help Me Identify My Saddle Make???

Hi All

I am trying to identify this saddle in order to sell it, obviously a named saddle will sell for more...I need as much as possible for it to help towards buying a new bates VSD. I cant take it to a saddlers who are familiar with English saddles as I live in Norway (moved here from Wales 4 years ago).

The saddle came with my TB Tess, apparently it was fitted by a saddle fitter in UK.

The saddle is labelled under the flap 'Event' but thats is all it says...on the front note the italic 'R' and on pommel a gold circle with a raised 'R' on.

Any thoughts on the Bates VSD or GP?

Or Rimell (sp?) saddlery in Shipston on Stour.

You could find a contact number for the manufacturers of the nails on google and phone around - there are oly a couple of places that make the head nails and they might recognise it

If it is then the name wouldn't necessarily add any more value to the saddle, currently only one leather dressage saddle is made under that name (interestingly in Walsall although they sound like they should be German), which has no R stamp and the nail heads are completely different, the rest of their range is synthetic
 
Don't know what make it could be, but it is a very very similar shape to the Ideal event saddle, so i would highlight that, a comparison to a "known" maker can help people Identify what type of saddle it is and how it may fit. From what I can see, it is VERY comparable!
 
if you contact the leather museum in Walsall they may be able to identify the pin as they hold hundreds of pins there from walsall saddle makers. If they don't know then they probably know someone who will. The thing is anyone can have pins made and put them on saddles as long as the manufacturer agrees. So although it is made in walsall it may be the pin of some saddler somewhere else in the world
 
I had a saddle with the big R on the flaps and it was made by Ryder Saddlery, I believe they used to be called Regency, however they changed their name but kept the same R, could be either, hope this helps a little.

I dont think it is Rhinegold, the saddle shows real quality leather and very high standard of workmanship, also I have researched their badges and they do not appear the same at all.

I agree that it seems very Ideal Saddle like so to speak!

I think I had a Regency saddle some 15 yrs ago for my 14.2 cob so I too recognise the 'R' but when I searched Regency found nothing, as they changed to Ryder thats probably why!

I will let you all know once I have spoken with Ryder, thanks for all of your help, I really appreciate it, it's hard to get good advice when you live abroad...thank godness for the internet!

I can't help with the saddle make, but on your other question - I have the Bates VSD and I love it. Very comfortable and I feel very secure in it. I tried the GP as well (and that's what my sister has), but much preferred the VSD.
