Ok so.... why do some of our babies look like barrels with legs and a head on a stick-neck, and others look like they're ready to go on an endurance trial?!?! What I mean is, some look incredibly babyish (mine) and others look physically very mature. Is it simply breeding?

I have a 2yo Welsh D colt who I have been shovelling the food into to try and put a bit of weight on him for showing this year. He, however, found a better use for all this lovely food he was getting - he turned into enegery and him and my Dartmoor spent all winter and spring playing silly games in the field so he is a well muscled pony, got enough coverage to look acceptable but most certainly is not a barrel of a pony! I have finally managed to be able to seperate the 2 beasties and hopefully he will put on some weight now to go from being acceptable to well covered. If he gets too fat then I will let them loose with each other for a week or two again lol! It keeps the darty fit so I don't have to ride him every day!

His head was that size at six mths, it took this long for the rest of him to catch up!!!

Queenbee I feel your pain
Mine has done exactly the same
Gone very ribby , bum high and just looks like a cut and shut filly
Lovely Youngsters tho !!

There are some lovely youngsters on this thread. I find it fascinating watching them grow. It's not unusual for them to look like cut and shuts till they're 5, so have patience people.

Wolf still looks quite babyish. He was 2 the other day.

He's going through a phase at the moment where his back is growing - it seems to get longer every day. I think he wants to be a sausage-Wolf.

But you do get the odd glimpse of what I hope he'll grow into:

Esther what's that circular mark on his head? He's so gorgeous.

My not-quite-two year old looks perfect at the moment just with a baby face- so I'm dreading the next few months!!! Xxxx

This is Mo, but before anyone asks, the buttercups aren't in his grazing field, hubby is a photographer and just liked the look of them in the foreground LOL

I know, it's embarrasing! The worst part of it is that even on the odd times when his withers catch up to his bum for a week or two before the next growth spurt, he still looks like his massive head has been photoshopped onto the wrong body! I find it really wierd looking at him next to my mare, there is only about an inch between them and he is the taller of the two, but he still looks smaller because he is out of proportion, she of course, looks fantastic as always :) and with her friesian x chest looks imposing, but he just looks wrong! I am told though that those that look all lanky and wrong are the ones that just keep growing and end up HUGE... I won't argue with that!

I love the white eye lashes :)

I haven't got any pictures but mine has gone from being really cow-hocked and turning out hind legs to reasonably straight - not sure if this is normal or not (or just wishful thinking).

I have done some reading up on this as my yearling has gone quite cow hocked - by the sounds of it this is normal and they do come back out again !

I read it it because they get bigger in the tummy before getting longer in the back so the hocks come together in order for them to move easier !!

I'll let you know in a year !:-)

Albi will be 2 on June 11th (also my birthday :D)

Actually.... he's remarkably "self-cleaning" I will confess, I didn't have much input into yesterday's groom! :D

And being a typical horse and a young one at that... he just LOVES to wallow....
