Hi all,
Just got in from having the vet out to Tigger. Turned up at the yard about 9.20pm to do the horses off and bring mine in for the night. I noticed he was being 'looky' and hesitant coming across the yard and blinking when brought in to the light of his stable. Looked closer and his 'good' eye was the size of a tennis ball.
(Tigger lost the sight in his other eye as a three year old).
Que massive hysteria and panicking. Vet came out very quickly and managed to find a small scratch on his cornea. Has given him anti-inflammatory injection and eye drops.
Poor little man is now on box rest for the following week with 4 x daily eye drops and bute.
Just desperate for healing vibes, for some reason I'd quite like Tigger to keep his remaining eye! Vet seemed confident as sure we caught it not long after it happened (last checked by YO about 5pm).

Please please please keep fingers, toes and hooves crossed for Tigger!

Awwww poor Tigger. Ouch. Sending him some healing (((((vibes)))) get well soon xx

Thank you all so much! They seem to be working!
The improvement this morning is amazing and I feel a bit better. Still very worried because it's his only eye though!
Just got back from giving him his eye drops and first bit of bute. He tried so hard to behave and it's obviously very sore :(
Here's a picture of it this morning...

So much better, last night it was far bigger and completely sealed shut.
Thank you again and please keep fingers crossed it keeps improving!

So relieved that there is considerable improvement.
My girl only has one eye, this is my nightmare happening. Fingers crossed that all continues to go well for you.

(((Vibes))) to Tigger's eye.

Since both you and Janette understandably is worried about something happening with your horse's "good" eye, admittedly I don't know if they protect against anything else than flying debris from other horses hooves and perhaps it is a little bit too overprotective, but I was wondering if either of you have considered using a racing hood/pacifier with either some type of mesh or plexiglass cup to protect the "good" eye?

I've seen racing hoods with mesh over the eye area, where you can remove the blinders:
from www.whiterosesaddlery.com
same but from www.gibsonsaddlers.com
similar/same? from www.horseracingtackandsupplies.com

Here's a similar hood from Sweden, but without blinders:

Here is only a hood:
www.tackshackocala.com/racingblinkers
that you then can get plexiglass cups to somehow put on:
www.tackshackocala.com/Plexiglass cup replacement

By the way, I've read that people that uses plexiglass cups on their racing hoods, have different tricks to keep them free from fogging, like rubbing in either washing-up liquid or the lather from shaving cream (for men if that makes any difference) on the cups and then drying it off, preferably without using any water or only minimal amounts of it. The shaving cream lather trick is supposed to work on bathroom mirrors too, but I've never remembered to buy any to have a try.

Sorry for going off topic, and hope Tigger's eye is soon well again.

Thanks everyone, eye is pretty much normal but still being kept in! Have decided to take him off bute as the swelling has completely gone and he only puts up a fuss when having his eye drops now.

Thank you for that FinnishLapphund, I was considering a full face fly mask so that is more food for thought!
