Please could you answer these few questions for me?

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Springers

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchase

Why did you want a dog?
Grew up with dogs, just waited for the right house

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
First two were easier, current two harder

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Did, two of them to replace Jake

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Went with breed OH grew up with. Not interested in breeding and didn't want the hassle of seasons so got boys. Went to Hereford first time round to ensure we got the right size/type

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppies. Wanted to bring them up the way we wanted and not inherit potential issues

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Plenty, shedders, lots of grooming needed, massive dogs or one that are seen as 'fashionable/'hard'

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Only health issues: stayed away from KC registered when I chose these ones

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Not KC registered, nearby, right colour, obviously not a breeder in it for the money, not a puppy farmer

Please don't cry!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? Jack Russel X Westie

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? "Purchased" from my aunt.

Why did you want a dog? Darling sister wanted a chinchilla. And for some unknown reason my parents thought another dog would be easier than a chinchilla.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Much harder.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? Again, the pomeranian story.

Would you get another of your chosen breed? No. I didn't like his looks. Prefer my terriers white.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks Again, random litter was floating about and so went with what there was...

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Puppy, because thought it would be easier to introduce to Tink than an adult.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? Yes. Because he was a horrid thing! No idea what was wrong, whether it was us or whether he was genuinely a bit mad!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Again, big dogs.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Where to start?! Very food possessive. You didn't even try and remove his bowl from him.
Aggresive to other dogs. He was socialised and went to puppy classes and later training classes but always wanted to be picking a fight.
Aggressive to us. You wanted to put his lead on? Not if he didn't want you to... Want to put him in his room? Again, not if he wasn't in the mood... come in from the garden? Yes, if you put on gardening gloves and rugby tackle him... Bites... Sit/Down/Stay etc is all if hes in the mood.
Didn't expect this as we thought we had done everything "right." Didn't do anything different training/treatment wise than we did with Tink, except he went to training classes, which we thought would help!!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? Family...

Right, this would be really helpful to be if people could answer honestly and it does not have to be one word answers, sorry this is possibly the easiest way I can do this, also if anyone wants to PM an answer feel free, this is not a judgemental posts, its actually for course work.

If I get no answers I will cry:(:p

The two most different dogs ever!

Thankyou hugely, esp the posts that admited issues and even near enough having a break down, it is exactly the type of info I needed, aswell as all the rest, now settles down to write 5 tousand words and make some graphs:eek::D

I was suprised at the amount that mentioned they would avoid littleuns:D I fully expected the rotti, akita, sled dogs to be on the bottoms of lists of breeds, they are lovely guys....really:D:D

What breed/ X breed is your dog?
GSDx

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rescue- Dogs Trust

Why did you want a dog?
Moved out of our parents into our own house and missed having a dog- we both grew up with them and our parents had always had them

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Loads easier- She was actually rescued as a stray and used to be quite nervous- IMO this really helped, esp. for recall and stay etc as she does listen to you, comes back when we want her too etc- I do think this is because she is scared she'll lose us.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
nope

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Sex- work on Tradestands through the Summer and my pet hate is dogs cocking their legs!! Looks- She's beautiful!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Willow was about 6 months when we got her-I wanted a more adult dog as I think Pups are so easily rehomed from rescues! When I rescue another dog, it'll be one that's older. If I get a pup it'll be bought through a breeder (I want a Dalmation as I grew up with them!)

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
No- it's not the breed I'm bothered about, it's the dogs temperment and attitude

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
We only have very minor issues with Willow- she is terrified of being in the dark on her own- this is easily resolved by leaving a light on if we have to leave her or taking her with us. Other one is her weight- we struggle as she worries her weight off. HAve now found a good balance of food/excercise etc. Yes, I knew there may be issues- she was nervous when I first met her and very underweight.
Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) - 2 Labs

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? - Dog was purchased and we rescued the other (his half sister)

Why did you want a dog? - Always loved them and didn't have them as a kid as Mum was very allergic

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? - Generally the boy has been very easy to train, with a few wobbles here and there but now he is almost 3 and it so biddable. The bitch is so submissive so her training has been very easy. She never tests or pushes the boundaries, have been very lucky with her!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? - No

Would you get another of your chosen breed? - Definitely

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks - Always loved the breed and our family is very much pro lab. We have 7 of them in the family

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? - We got the dog as a puppy, it was something my husband and I had been planning on for a long time. Sister in law bred him and we really wanted one from her. His half sister we got when she was 2 from her breeder when it transpired she couldn't be used as a breeding bitch due to early stages of cateracts. Best thing we ever did!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? - Never

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? - Akita, lurcher, toy breeds - just not really my cup of tea

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? -

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? - Breeder was sister in law, lived with her at uni with my dogs Mum so knew her from a pup. Absolutely loved her and knew I wanted to get one of hers

What breed/ X breed is your dog? 2 x cocker spaniels, 2 x golden retrievers.

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? All purchased

Why did you want a dog? Always had them.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? I didn't do much training of the retrievers (parents did), the spaniels were easier than expected.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Rottweiler
Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchase - had looked for a suitable dog in rescue for a year with no luck.

Why did you want a dog?
Always wanted a rott :)
Love the breed.
Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Easier in most ways - he's very bright - but I have to say that his teenage Kevin stage had me tearing my hair out.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Definitely

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Wanted a dog as already had 2 JRT bitches and thought it would be easier to introduce a dog rather than a 3rd bitch - but it wasn't set in stone!
Love the personality of rotts rather than looks even though they are very handsome IMHO

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Needed a young dog to fit into existing household pets (3 elderly cats and 2 terriers) plus knew that whatever dog I got would have to learn to tolerate chooks, cattle and horses pdq - thought a dog under two would be easier

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No - was shocked by some other peoples reaction to the breed though.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
None really - I've usually been "chosen" by my dogs rather than gone looking for them. This one was the exception.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Despite all the relevant health checks, he has done in both cruciate ligaments and has mild elbow dysplasia in both front legs. I knew that the cruciate problems were common in the breed before I got him

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Recommended by the local breed club.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Siberian (6) Siberian (4) and Alaskan Malamute(3)

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Purchased all three

Why did you want a dog?

Something to join us on walks and as one works days and the others nights we got one for company

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

The Siberians where as we expected not as easy as the GSD and gundogs we had been brought up with, the malamute was a lot easier than we expected but then it could be due to experience

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Siberian never saying never but probably not, Malamute would never be without one in our lives

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

We wanted a dog that was high energy who could take a large amount of exercise the Siberian fitted our bill

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

Puppy wanted to raise them ourselves but would now consider taking on an adult re-home

Do/have you ever regretted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

Never regretted it but am sometimes envious of those who can let there dogs off lead on walks

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Small dogs apart from borders and spaniels mainly because I don't believe they would be able to handle the crazy three and our lifestyles

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

Nothing that wasn't expected

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisement?

First pup breeder was local, second recommended by a friend as she was breeder of one of her dogs that we loved, malamute breeder we met at rallies got to know over a two year period loved her, her dogs and the dogs she has bred

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
(1) Collie x terrier of some sort (2) GSD x Collie (i think)

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Both rescues (one Dogs Trust, one puppy rescure that used to be part of NCDL)

Why did you want a dog?
These are family dogs - we had always had dogs. A house is odd without one!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Both easy.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yep - heinz 57 all the way!

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks.
(1) was the only puppy of the lot who completel ignored us - v independant! (2) Steering mum away from a black lab type as we lost our last one, she was run over.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
(1) was a puppy (2) was about 9 mths

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Chinese fighting dog, sharpeis (I am allergic to them more than other dogs bizzarely) and any little smaller-than-is-normal yappy type breed!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
(1) General chewing/destructive behaviour as a youngster (2) separation anxiety = destructive behaviour. Expected this behaviour really.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? N/A - both are non-descript 'mutts'!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

JRT x ?

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Rescue - she was a breeding bitch in the a small time puppy farm

Why did you want a dog?
I liked the idea of having another dog after losing my staffie the year before but hadn't actively looked.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
She was/is an angel :) Housetrained within 24 hours, stuck to me like glue - all the good cliches of a rescue dog.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
I did!

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Wasn't an active choice - she was a dog that was going to be knocked over the head as she was in such poor condition that she had attracted the attention of the RSPCA and as a result, the "evidence" had to be removed. I was prepared for the vet to say PTS when I brought her in to them on my way home....

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Not really - I was absolutely spoilt by this dog

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Lab
Springer Spaniel
Collie

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchased all three

Why did you want a dog?
Gundog/ pet
Working farm dog

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
None are trained highly as either gundog/ farm dog, however all were fairly easily trained in general behaviour and obedience.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Yes, Weirmaraner who ran off and killed three of our neighbours sheep. She was only nine months and we just could not trust her not to do it again as she had the taste for it. So our only option was either keep her locked up all the time or rehome. We did it through our vets and then a rehoming centre where she was going to go to an urban home. It broke our hearts.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Had before, and as working dogs, narrowed down breed choices.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy.
Lab - same mum as one we had lost had just had a litter, so we have a half sister of our old dog (lost her at 2 1/2 to a blood clotting disorder)
Spaniel - friend of a friend had a litter, good working strain
Collie - Had not long lost our old dog, and neighbouring farmers bitch had just had a litter

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
OH doesn't like small breeds.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Details above, didn't expect this no.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
have explained above

:)

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

A) German Shepherd

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

A) Purchased.

Why did you want a dog?

A) Grew up with dogs, missed having one. Finally found myself with the time and finances to dedicate to a new dog.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

A) Was expecting him to have some brains and he does catch on fast, so in that respect easy. Harder in some ways as he's smart enough to pick up bad habits as quickly as the good ones.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

A) Nope.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

A) Absolutely! Would like to hope I'll always have one now, though wouldn't automatically discount all other breeds.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

A) Breed first, after researching several the GSD seemed to tick every box for me. Sex 2nd as I've always had dogs, but never a GSD. One learning curve at a time is fine for me ta :p Looks third, though I did want something that was bred 'correctly' and not for some kind of funky coat colour.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

A) Initially wanted to rescue an adult, then ended up going for a puppy after some careful consideration. Living in a sorta public building with people coming and going all day I thought a pup would adapt faster. There were selfish reasons too, I enjoy the puppy stage of socialising/training and can't guarantee I'll have the time for it again once I'm done with Uni. I wanted a pup from health tested parents to try to reduce the chance of heart ache later on. There are other reasons but I'll refrain from producing an essay.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

A) Definitely no regrets. There have been moments of doubt in the early days but I wouldn't swap him for anything, or any of the other dogs we've had.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

A) I can't think of a specific breed I would NEVER consider. I'm not a fan of small dogs, or terriers. There's probably many breeds and types that I would clash with or wouldn't suit my current lifestyle, leaving both of us unhappy. A lot of breeds have characteristics that I like and some that I don't, I'd have to weigh them up carefully, and the individual dog too.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

A) Mouthing springs to mind. I expected it, but he was a dog obsessed at one point. Very persistent and would chomp down as hard as his jaws could manage. Am living with parents atm and they caught the worst of it, their arms were utterly mangled at one point. He still will try to grab hold of people if he gets over excited, but with no pressure. Slowly getting better.

Other peoples reactions to GSDs can be a problem. Wasn't expected at all, it made his puppy classes completely miserable and has put me off other classes or activities I wanted to do with him, though I'm getting on with things now and starting to look into other groups/clubs in the area. Sick of meeting people out walking who take one look at him and go the other way, or take a wide berth while keeping one eye on him. Actually makes the friendlier/relaxed dog walkers stand out a lot.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

A) I'm a GSD newbie, didn't know any breeders or specific lines, so was a case of doing research, then hunting through adverts for a breeder that was producing health tested puppies in a responsible way. Spoke to several (including some real odd types). Went with Loki's breeder as she ticked all the right boxes for me, interrogated me in the way I expected, wants him back if I can't keep him, gave plenty of advice etc.

Right, this would be really helpful to be if people could answer honestly and it does not have to be one word answers, sorry this is possibly the easiest way I can do this, also if anyone wants to PM an answer feel free, this is not a judgemental posts, its actually for course work.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
English Springer Spaniel

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchased

Why did you want a dog?
Had them growing up and the second I lived in a house that would allow me to have one, I had to have one :D

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
10 times harder than I could have ever expected!!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Nope, although my Mum co-owned an IWS the ended up going back to the Breeder (other co-owner) due to his unsuitability to work.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes, without a shadow of a doubt

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
We had a Springer from when I was about 10 who was quite literally the best dog in the world. I wanted another just like him. I got Otto  I also wanted a dog to work, and my Parent's know a thing or two about Spaniels, so it seemed to make sense to get a breed they could help me with.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
I wanted a Puppy so I could train it up from the start. I had looked at rescues, but at the time we lived on a thirty acre farm with low fencing and I knew they wouldn't accept it as secure enough. As it wasn't our house we couldn't change it. However I ended up with a 6 month old pup that had been left behind from a litter.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
In the first month or so I can honestly say I hated him :o He was awful! Walking him was a chore, never a pleasure. I was always tense and stressed at the prospect of taking him out. It didn't occur to me to get rid of him though, I couldn't have dumped his problems on someone else. Now I love him more than anything (almost more than my horse ) and wouldn't swap him for the world. Walking him is a relaxing pleasure, but if you'd told me that in the beginning, I'd have laughed in your face!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Not sure! Working at the Kennels I see allsorts and there are some breeds that are not my cup of tea, but then we get the odd one that completely changes my mind! I would get disowned for having a Labradoodle/Cockerpoo mind you :D Amount of grooming and prevelant health problems in a breed would put me off I guess.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Recall and agression. Never even thought of it, as our old boy and all our Cockers have been super recallers and my last Springer would never have even considered aggression! He also had mild SA, but that didn't prove too much of an issue. The biggest problem was his complete and utter lack of any kind of recognition, I honestly thought he was deaf for a long time!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
I saw him advertised and we went to see him. Fell in love with him and came home with him. Not the way it should be done and not the way I would do it again.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Why did you want a dog?
companionship, fun!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Easier

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Definatly

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Breed wise wanted something that had low kill instinct, friendly temp, decent amount of energy, wanted a dog that likes water (for some reason!), something fairly small
Choosing Winston as individual, was last black male

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
puppy: had to get used to cats, sheep, cows and get on well wth other dogs. Thought this was a bit of a chance with an older dog.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Things with high kill instinct and ones you would have trtouble letting off lead

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
No

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

What breed?
2 x German Shorthaired Pointers (10 yrs of age), sisters
1 x Italian Greyhound (10 weeks).

Purchase or rescue?
Purchased

Why did you want a dog?
Have always had dogs with parents and wanted to continue having dogs.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
The GSP's were easy to train with the correct trainer. We took them for one to one training with a gundog trainer after causing havoc in the local dog training class.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
No

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Had always wanted GSP's. With the Iggy, wanted a skinny dog but not something as big as a greyhound or whippet.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy.
Had a rescue dog previously and she had so many issues, she wasn't a pleasure to own and she had a long life. Figured a puppy would be less likely to have such issues.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
I did regret the rescue dog (a Westie) because she was such a pain to own. She did have a long life with me though and seemed happy enough in herself.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
I wouldn't have a poodle. Poodle because I was bitten on the face by one as a child and haven't been keen on them since.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
One of the GSP's had entropia, this was operated on successfully and the breeder gave us a partial refund. Didn't expect the problem even though I knew it was one thing they were prone to. Breeder had done health checks and none of the line had had it before. Just unlucky.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
GSP's were advertised in HHO. Did some research into the Kennel prefix before we went to look at them. She was one of the first and (allegedly) best breeders of GSP's in the country. Now sadly deceased but her breeding program is being continued by her OH.

Iggy - Didn't want to travel too far for one, so chose one closest to who was prepared to sell to a household with children.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Yellow Lab

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Buy

Why did you want a dog?
Coz they're ace :p We actually werent looking for one we just went to see a friends puppies and he chose me - the whole time we were there he sat at my feet and ignored everyone else

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Easier :)

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes as long as personality and health ok

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
He did lol

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy - he chose me

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
I worry about problems like arthritus (sp) that seem very common in labs but he's never been overweight and the vet thinks hes fine :)

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Yes and no - right now I wouldnt get a breed known for being hyper or getting too big because I have to rely on my parents to look after them when I'm at work and they wouldnt cope with it. When I get a job with a lunch hour and can let them out then obv it would be different

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Have had major problems with his digestive system but the vet stressed this isnt hereditary (we know both parents are ok) but now we're got a balance on what to feed him and know what to avoid :) Also hes a big pansy ;) and likes to take up all the room on the bed/sofa but Im told that isn't the fault of the breeder either ;) :p

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
We knew the breeder and I met both parents - he used them both for working and they are fabulous dogs

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

JRT

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rescue - she was a 5 week old pup from a very young bitch who was kept on a 3 foot chain. She was half the size of her litter mates and the bitch had run out of milk by the looks of things (skin & bone) and the pups were being fed tinned dog food and biscuits and lets just say, not thriving. I ended up taking her because while I was having a huge row with the breeder about the state of his yearlings (one of whom had collapsed in the field next door to mine and was just left to die:() I said "I don't suppose that you'll care about those bloody pups dying either" and was told to take it then if you're so worried.

Why did you want a dog?
I didn't :) but what could I do? :D No regrets btw.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
She was murder to train - house training took a full year and even at 12 yo now she'll think about peeing indoors if the weathers bad! Recall was very, very hit and miss and she seemed determined to get herself killed before her first birthday. I have to admit that I was spoilt by my 1st terrier who was exceptionally easy to train and found this one much harder work. It didn't help that she is probably one of the thickest (said with affection these days) dogs I have ever met....she doesn't do the dark, bad weather, fireworks/loud noises, water and many other things :)

I never expected to have such a dim terrier ;) I knew both her parents and there were no flies on them , both real working terriers who sadly had to rely on their wits most of their lives.....
Luckily, she has beauty and cuddliness to make up for the lack of brains.

Phew, that's all of mine done now!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Border Terrier

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchase

Why did you want a dog?
My family have always had dogs and we didnt think it would be fair to drag the old BT with me when I moved out with OH, so we got another one! I can't imagine not having a dog around!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Harder, she has some SERIOUS attitude but has mellowed with age (Thank god)

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Nope

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Without a doubt, they are amazing little dogs.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Breed - my own experiences
Sex - We thought a bitch would get on better with the old BT.
Looks - couldnt give a toss.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy - I really wanted her to grow with us and for us to learn all of her quirks for myself. Would consider an older dog next time though!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Only when I have found destroyed clothes / bin / poop in the house - never lasts long though!

Is there a breed you would never consider and why?
Yorkie - Far far far too yappy for me!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
No problems so far.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
She was bred by someone at work, I had met her bitch several times on the yard and was smitten with her, we went to pick a horse up one day and met the dog and he was fantastic.. when I heard she was thinking of taking her bitch to him I told her I wanted a bitch pup.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Oscar - lurcher but mainly greyhound with poss 1/4 or 1/8 collie
Susie - jack russell terrier
Dash - whippet

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Oscar - rescue from RSPCA
Susie - purchased from breeder
Dash - rescue from Scruples whippet rescue

Why did you want a dog?
Oscar - Companion: I'd moved away from my parents and obs couldn't take their dogs with me
Susie - trying to win over my now husband ;) she is his dog really
Dash - playmate for Oscar and rabbit catcher

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Oscar - easy in most respects but really hard to housetrain because he refuses to go out in bad weather, and we had sheep chasing issues too.
Susie - dead easy
Dash - easier than I thought because I had been told horror stories by the rescue!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Never

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Lurcher & whippet - yes, in a heartbeat
JRT - I wouldn't but OH would!

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Oscar - what the RSPCA would let me have
SUsie - breed
Dash - breed

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Oscar - didn't mind but ended up with 16 week old puppy
Susie - OH preference was for a puppy
Dash - wanted a young adult dog because I have a small child and didn't want him molesting a puppy or treading in poo / wee!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Oscar - no
Susie - yes, because she can be a snappy little b*tch and we have had serious dominance issues with her
Dash - no

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Anything with long hair (I know I would get frustrated with the grooming and clip it all off) and anything that drools alot (just yuk!)

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Oscar - house training & sheep chasing. Totally unexpected
Susie - dominance & socialisation issues. Should have anticipated this because she had to live with the inlaws for a bit and they are too soft for their own good
Dash - nothing really. We were warned by the rescue that he had no recall but this problem seemed to disappear with a change of home

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Susie - was bred by a friend of my parents. We thought they seemed knowledgeable & responsible when we met them but were sadly mistaken

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) husky x gsd. Am bulldog x boxer

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? Neither, he got left in our pub!. Rescue

Why did you want a dog? I hadn't actually planned on having one'. For companionship for tysie and to be honest we enjoyed having a dog about the place so much a second seemed like the next step!
Also I wanted to prove to myself not all mutts were SUCH hard work!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Harder much much harder!. Easier compared to Tyson, but it's early days

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? No, can't say I haven't ever thought about it when Tyson has a bad day, but I'll never give up on him, or myself!. Nope, never

Would you get another of your chosen breed? Never!!!. Yeah she's broadened my horizons hugely

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks we didn't mind at all for either dog!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Iasked rescue for an adult dog for no reason other thN to have a calming effect on Tyson!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? Yeah I've had my moments. no!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Yes, I'd definitely think twice about another husky or mal x gsd!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? Training - and yes. Yes, problems with other dogs - and yep, she's a rescue and we have no history!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? N/a

Hope that made sense cayla!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Border Collie and two Spinonies

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
The older Spin was aquired, broken marriage of a friends sister, other two bought

Why did you want a dog?
Always had a dog, can't imagine not having one.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Collie was easy Spins somewhat harder.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Rehomed two over the years, a Dobie again aquired, rehomed to a friend due to change in personal circumstance at the time, and a GSD bitch we had found in a very bad state at the side of the road, never claimed, didn't get on with our alpha female collie and was very scared of men, very carefully rehomed to a lady on her own.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes would have another Collie or Spinone if we had the space.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
The Collie, we have had several, just love them. The second Spin, after having the first, they are great dogs! Prefer bitches, just a personal choice, tho we did have a JRT dog, who was great.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy Spinone, they don't come up as rescues very oftern, Collie Puppy, the boys were young at the time and rescue Collies and small boys don't always mix. The older Spin was 11 months when we got her, not planned.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Not that I can think of off hand.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Recall with the Spins when they get on the sent of something furry. They are also great food thieves, cant leave anything out, they are renound for it.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Both pups from adverts, Collie is from working stock, our collies always have been. The Spin was a private breeder, but both parents had had the correct health tests.

Yellow Lab.

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rehomed but was never in a Rescue Centre - (Failed police dog)

Why did you want a dog?
Not really

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Harder due to previous training - followed smells, pulled on lead etc

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Never

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
No - I think he'd be far better suited working that being a pet although he has a wonderful life. But thats his personality and constant supplies of energy :D

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Knew the owner and his situation

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult - we wouldnt have time for a puppy during the day and it would be unfair

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Nope - he's lovely

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
None, but Id never be able to get a puppy if that counts?

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Pulling on the lead. Yeah, he had previously lived on the Yorkshire Moors somewhere and just let out to run instead of being took for a leady walk. Combined with the sniffer training, he just pulled, and pulled.
Its not a major problem but the only one he had

Rescue

Why did you want a dog?
Had wanted a dog since childhood but had many years wait, mainly for companionship at home & walking buddy

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Had a few training issues but on the whole easier than we initially expected, though we've only done obedience basics.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No these are my first dogs

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
I felt the breed suited our lifestyle, found them attractive and were easily available to adopt. Our dogs were chosen more on what character we clicked with and felt would suit us, we weren't looking for any specific sex/age/colour.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult, we worked full-time so felt puppy wasn't suitable & were happy to skip puppy stage.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No feel we made the right choices.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Probably avoid breeds that high energy or needing lots of mental stimulation (collies/huskies etc), high grooming needs/costs and i personally don't like the look of dogs with short snouts, bug or droopy eyes, saggy skin or drools a lot.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Hector- Had a bit of separation anxiety & toilet training took a bit longer to perfect while left alone but had read up on these issues prior to adopting so wasn't totally unexpected.
Throp- More nervous once home than at kennels & tried to bolt if strangers tried to approach him while outside. It was something we'd intended to avoid as first time dog owners, but i'm glad we didn't rule him out as with time/exposure he's improved so much and it wasn't above our training abilities as we'd thought.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) jack russel type, sold as 'pure' but looks like a mixture to me!

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

purchase

Why did you want a dog?

because I've always had one. And because I love walking and for the company.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

About the same, knew terriers could be tricky

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

yes, a collie I had years ago, I moved to an unsuitable house so my sister has her :)

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

breed and sex and having owned them before.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

puppy because rescues won't rehome with children under a certain age.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

No.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

True working breeds. Because they're bred for a job i wouldn't be doing with them. It's hard enough keeping a terrier entertained.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

She's very protective of me and a bit insecure still at being left. The insecurity i expected as I'm home a lot in the day, but I didn't expect the protectiveness and now have to muzzle her in public and round children she doesn't know. Just in case.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Vet recommended.

Purchase

Why did you want a dog?
My last dog died about 2 months before. Was ready to have a new one.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Both. Some things he's good at, others, rubbish!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Only ever had collies. Wanted a malke, and chose one opposite in looks to my last collie.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy. Prefer a puppy so cats could beat him up and he would learn not to chase them!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Quite a few. Labrador - neighbours ones put me off. Boxers - bad experience. Toy dogs, and 'manufactured' crosses. Regular mongrels are great!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
He's and out and out chewer - learn to put things away!
