Please could you answer these few questions for me?

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Greyhound

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rescue

Why did you want a dog?
House felt empty, help with my dads depression and to let my youngest brother experience growing up with a dog

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
He was fairly easy in the fact he was never badly behaved. He was just a little thick and took a while to understand

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Without a doubt!

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
The fact he was the only dog that was happy to see us, climbed up his door to say hello and he was a gentle giant.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
We wanted an adult dog as we felt we didn't have the time to socialise and housetrain a puppy to its full potential.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Probably another BC. As much as I love them and loved owning one they were just not suitable to house living. Would only have one if I could work it everyday or lived on a farm!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
He is slightly dog aggressive and we weren't expecting it as we weret old he was great with other dogs!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

staffie x 1
Russelly jacks x 2

purchased the jacks, rescued the staff...actually i found her dumped in the middle of nowhere at approx 8 weeks old!

I have always had dogs they are part of my life ,couldn't image not having them around.

All of them have been easy to train and the staff is so intellegent.I think it is because i spend so much time with them and they learn real quick when they are around you all day.And they don't get bored and into mischief if they are kept busy.Have never understood why people want a dog and then leave on its own all day and then moan when it is hyper, chews the furniture and shits everywhere!

Never had to rehome a dog.

I will always have jack russels and i am very fond of any type of heinz 57 if it has a drop of terrier in it.

I never really choose the dogs i have owned ,they just kinda appear, can't explain it really.I have had a number of rescues over the years and the jacks were from a litter bred by a friend.

Usually have them as pups or around 6mths to 1 year if rescued.

No regrets, have loved them all for who they are.

Never really see myself with a weimaraner .

Had a springer spaniel once who had glacoma and had both eyes removed,he also lost a front leg in an accident...but he lived till he was 14yrs and if you didn't know it you wouldn't realise he was blind he was amazing.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Whippet x Labrador aka Whipadore!

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
She was given to me by family member

Why did you want a dog?
So that my children can grow up with a pet and learn to take responsibilty for caring about a living thing that can't help itself.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Easier

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Not personally, but family have. It wasn't good enough at gundog trials!! (Went to a good home though)

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
At the drop of a hat!

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Breed found me!!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy, it just happened as she was bred by accident

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Nope, never

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Bull type breeds and big hairys like GSD and New Foundland/St Bernards! Bad reputation around children and too big and expensive to feed.... my hoover would die to clearing up all the hair!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Thin coated, many tears and stitches. Yes, I knew it would happen!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Family, no choice.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Collie
Staffie x Lurcher
Collie xspaniel
Terrier mix
Border collie

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
eldest collie got from family member
other 4 all rescues

Why did you want a dog?
eldest boy was to keep greyhound company
next 4 were rescue not planned!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
the collie is a dream boy! does eveything perfectly!
the lurcher is willing but has attention span of a dead flea?
spanielx collie is very quick to learn! the terrier is a nutter and can be too quick for her own good!
the border collie pup is proving pretty clever!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
none of my own-worked for rescue homa nd rehomed lots of greyhounds

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
If i won lotto id have more bc and grehound but I would also like a bull terrier or a mastiff?

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
The eldest boy was chosen on colour, sex and having seen his parents
the rescues I had no say in their genetic make up!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
4 were puppies, and the one that was adult came with 8 puppies! puppies are easier to get into your routine was harder for the adult but I dont see difference-most times id take adult as less puppy things to worry about!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?no i love my rejects-everyone should have a reject or a greyhound

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
I always worried about Akitas that used to come into kennels? but maybe that is more to do with them as individual animals not akitas as a breed?
If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?spaniel x collie is potty about chasing birds? but as a rescue dog she could have had any issue and other than that she is a sweetie.the others were young enough to iron out problems before they started

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

What breed/ X breed is your dog?
German Shorthaired Pointer

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Bought

Why did you want a dog?
Because I like them? And we had the land/time to have one.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Never really done any training tbh :o He knows 'stay' and 'here' and thats it.
However, he picked that up v.v.quickly and also taught himself fetch.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes, but only if I worked from home/didn't work.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
He was only 1/2 mile down the road, I only wanted a dog (not bitch) and he had a saddle shape on his back.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy because we wanted to be sure it would fit in with our other dog and wanted to be able to get him used to the horses etc without any previous hangups.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Sometimes when he is being mental and overactive when all I want to do is sit down!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Anything small- I'm not a fan of dogs I can pick up easily! I like big, athletic looking dogs.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
He had very bad worms to start with- knew it was a strong possibility as he came from decidedly hobo looking people.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Saw an advert in the local paper- called and it was only 1/2 mile away which settled it.

Lots of health problems- TPLO surgery x 2, cancer scares, always getting injured by wire etc on walks (trying to follow the pointer). Didn't think there would be this many problems!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Mum checked with Kennel Club/Doberman groups to find a reputable breeder who did all the health checks, had good pedigrees, puppies well cared for etc and travelled 4 hours to pick Daisy up.

Why did you want a dog?

To have a pet, always had dogs in our family.

As expected! Braced ourselves for it to be the hardest thing ever Lol! Read up alot!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

No.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Yes.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

Wanted something active that could come out with the horses, like big dogs, Knew Dallys were very loving and loyal, They are beautiful dogs!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

2 x puppies, We knew how hard it was going to be to get a well behaved, well trained dog, therefore by buying as a puppy we could train it the way we wanted.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Not really a fan of toy breeds, eg chihuaha, yorkie, etc

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Youngest dog had a massive urge for chewing and stealing, we were very lucky (as dallys are renowned for stealing) that with our eldest one we had no problems at all, but youngest one was very testing Lol, sorted now but took a lot of hard work!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Adverts, word of mouth, breed club recommendation, also breeder had a line we were very interested in, after doing lots of research:D

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
I purchased both Roly and Lil

Why did you want a dog?
I have grown up with dogs, on my Godparents farm, at home etc I love walking. the countryside and a dog seemed a perfect companion.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Easier than I expected

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Yes, I had a puppy which had normal puppy issues and I was unable to deal with these, in retrospect my timing was completely off and now would no longer get a puppy over an older dog

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Size vs the size of my house at the time, personality.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Roly and Lil - puppies, I had someone at home and wanted dogs completely tailored to my lifestyle as it was at the time very unique.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Separation anxiety - and yes, but I thought from training my current dogs I'd be able to deal with it.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Roly and Lil were after some research.
Zarno was after extensive research and help from forum members etc

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Breed, looks, size, temperament, previous dog was also cross with one.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy, not easy dogs to "find" a reputable breeder for puppies let alone a fully grown one. Always had dogs from puppies, able to train them from the start, see them grow.

No. I/we have always had GSD/Border Collie and now Bernese. Would have any one of them again.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Small breeds, just not my cup of tea, prefer a dog size dog!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
None.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Kennel Club accredited breeder scheme, met her and her dogs, health scored, all good, very open and honest breeder.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) CURRENTLY WORKING COLLIES, BUT NOW THAT I'VE SOLD MY BUSINESS, PERHAPS A FORAY BACK INTO GUNDOGS. DON'T KNOW YET!!

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? PURCHASED, OR BRED. NEVER RESCUED, AND VERY MUCH DOUBT THAT I EVER WOULD.

Why did you want a dog? PRIMARILY WORK, BUT COMPANY TOO.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? NOT EITHER, REALLY. UPS AND DOWNS, AS WITH ALL DOGS.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? NO, NEVER.

Would you get another of your chosen breed? CERTAINLY.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks. WORK NEEDS, BUT SOME REQUIREMENTS WOULD SUIT DOGS BETTER THAN BITCHES, I THINK!!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? ALMOST ALWAYS PUPPIES. BECAUSE THEN I DON'T HAVE TO FIRST SORT OUT THE MESS OF OTHER PEOPLES MAKING!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? NEVER.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? PLENTY! MOSTLY THOSE FOR WHICH I WOULDN'T HAVE A USE, AND THOSE WHICH ARE CONSIDERED TO BE DIM!!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? BY AND LARGE, I GOT WHAT I EXPECTED, WARTS AND ALL.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? VIEWED THE PUPPIES PARENTS (VITAL), AND THEN THE PEDIGREES. :(:p

I'd be interested to hear what course you are on, what you are planning to do with it, when you've finished, and briefly what it entails.

Alec.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Puppy, as above

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? She's our first dog and I don't regret a second of it!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Mostly larger dogs and that's only because of size of house - if I had a bigger house, I would love a GSD/Rottie/Dobie.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? House training and mild separation anxiety. Was fully prepared for both.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? Breeder was a friend.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Boxer
German Shorthaired Pointer

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
No
No but was blind and was going to end up at a rescue

Why did you want a dog?
Wanted a family dog
Wanted company for Boxer after losing to Clumbers

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Very easy, near perfect manners
More difficult, very good in some areas but some took a while to learn.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Yes, took on dogs for other people while why found homes but not one of my own family dogs.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Boxer-breed, knew breeders, looks, temp of parents
GSP- he needed a home wasnt planned.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Both puppies

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No neither, the GSP has been challenging (sp?) till 2years old but never would of given up.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Great Dane, Toy dogs

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Boxer has had a few medical problems ig growths but knew the breed is a vet addict.
Also Boxer has an aggressive streak with other dogs as was attacked by a Collie when young and then by a Great Dane, he now is funny with other dogs, This hasnt come from his breed just bad experiences.

He is blind and know one day he may have to have it removed.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Boxer- my mum knew the breeder and was on a waiting list for a puppy we waited 2years till a liter came along, worth the wait.

GSP- a friend was getting a puppy, the breeders were bad, mine had no hair on his face, very skinny and blind. Took him on to give him a chance. Turned in to a stunning dog, had no problems with his eye.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Working Cocker Spaniel (who doesn't work)

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Collected to stop her going to a rescue centre

Why did you want a dog?
Keep me company when OH is at work, wanted to bring baby up with them around and we walk alot so made sense to offer a dog a home.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Easier-ish she is a quick learner but had bad memories of being trained previously and no shouting allowed ;) Even at OH.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Erm....maybe but prefer shorter ear hair.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
She was good with children, lovely nature and owners had to move by the end of the month so we picked her up the day after we got married. She could have been a gremlin we still would have had her. Would have preferred male to avoid seasons but she was already spayed so no differance.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Always looked for an adult one but young because our walks are too long to take puppies on but wanted one young enough to become accustomed to children. But pip is three but already good with children.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Think twice about GSD my last dog was a x and it moulted EVERYWHERE. And boxers because everyone I've met I thought has been stuck up
(sure they're not all like that), toy dogs, massive dogs (not picky honestly)

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Weeing everytime you approached her and hadn't lived in a house for years knew both before we had her. Also everytime you use a whistle to call her she wees and if you say heel she wees. 'Cured' peeing in the house with the occasional accident avoid the whistle and say 'with me' instead of heel.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Couldn't have her going into kennels and she was a dog of a relation. Also rescue centres don't like to rehome with children so had been driving miles to rescue centres trying to find the right dog!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Rescue papers said GSD/Collie but it's a guess

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Given to me by old owner - so rescue?

Why did you want a dog?
I wanted my own dog and my old dog is getting a bit too fragile for long walks and training.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Easier for things like trick-training. On his reactivity its harder.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
no

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Temperament

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult - not really by choice, he was offered to me and I took him!

no

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
No.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
His reactivity to other dogs on-lead & awful recall when other dogs were about. I was warned about this.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
He was advertised looking for a "temporary home" while I was actually looking for a dog, so I met him and offered to take him on. I honestly don't know why though!

kizzy i bought from an ad in the adtrader
chaos was through recommendation

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

We believe he is a Sloughi, either full or x with a greyhound

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Rescue

Why did you want a dog?

We had lost our GSD and my mother was not getting out of bed in the morning, a dog to walk was a reason for her to get out of bed. Also the house was so quiet without a dog in it

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

He was as I thought he would be, he has very little recall but with his breading we knew it could be an issue. In all other ways he is easy

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

Temperament, he had to be laid back enough for my mother to walk but he would also have the opportunity to walk with me as well if he wanted to

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

Adult older dog, needed to be calm enough for my mother and also puppies are hard work!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

No, (today however I would like to write that I would like a shorter one as he is so tall you cannot leave anything on the table that is edible…. He had the parmesan last night that I thought I had put away!!! I should know better. )

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Not really a breed, I would consider any, however it would have to have the right temperament, there are breeds that I don’t think would be suitable for our lifestyle, Busta gets walked for between 2 & 4 miles a day by me or my partner as my mother has recently passed away. He then also gets short walks in addition, don’t think there are many Huskies who would be happy with that!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

When he is left he will chew things and tear them up occasionally, this happens when he has had a few days of shorter walks and also due to the fact that my mother is no longer there with him pretty much 24/7. He is however settling into a new routine. Due to his change in routine it has not surprised me that he has taken time to settle in and been a little destructive.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? - as I expected

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
- No
Would you get another of your chosen breed? - Every time.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks - My parents had one, and I have loved them ever since.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? - Puppy. I like to know what I am getting and I don't want it ruined by a previous bad owner.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? - Only when they bugger off chasing deer.

Is there a breed you would never consider and why? - Anything very hairy. I don't like like haired smelly dogs. And I loathe sneaky sheepdogs.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think you may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? - N/A

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? - KC web site and also recommended by a friend.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)2 x Bassets, 3 x lurchers 2 x Lurcherxbasset

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?eldest basset was whelped here for pack; hunted 3 years then retired here, b bitch, (his daughter) out of another bitch we whelped for pack; eldest lurcher (12) I picked at 2 days old as MY dog. Other lurchers are out of son's bitch (he has her and 2 brothers at his home) The crosses are results of mistakes but are super dogs; others in the litter all have fantastic homes and keep being asked for more but stud dog (all of the others too) has been castrated.

Why did you want a dog? Always had dogs; used to be Border Terriers, lost the last one of 30 years breeding earlier this year. Would love another BT but not feasible.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?Founds hounds far easier to house train than terriers!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?one of our lurchers is one we sold as pup but owner died so we had him back nearly 3 years ago; he's stopping here too.

Would you get another of your chosen breed? Lurchers or Bassets, yes if needed a home but not from choice, 7 is enough in our small house.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looksalways wanted a Basset and a lurcher; took a long time for my dream to come true. Well worth the wait.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?Chose my lurcher bitch at 2 days old, others were born here

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?Only ever regretted having Border Terriers even though loved them to bits as they were too happy and independent to go off hunting on their own. It's badger country and sandy around here so always a worry if they got blocked in

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Spaniels, Border Collies, Red Setters; too neurotic and busy by half, drive me mad, sorry!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? N/A

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? N/A

Make sense of that! :D

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) - 3 x whippets, 1 x lurcher, 1 x labrador

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? purchased whippets and labrador, rescued lurcher

Why did you want a dog? Always had them since I was born - hate a house without a dog

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? - whippets - impossible in comparison to labrador - lurcher very biddable and wants to please

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? No

Would you get another of your chosen breed? Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks - Historically I have always had Labs - My late Mother in Law bred whippets and I was persuaded to have one by OH - wouldn't be without them now - great little dogs! - Oh and we only have bitches - prefer them to dogs.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? All puppies except lurcher who was 11months old. She is the first rescue I've had - would def have another.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Any bull type - I don't like them to look at.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? This labrador has more health problems than any lab I have owned before - I was quite surprised by this as all previous ones have been pretty healthy.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? - Lab breeder was from an ad in the Shooting Times - looking back now (in my then naivety) they were probably not good breeders. We knew the breeder of our first whippet, and both the breeders of our other 2 whippets contacted us and offered us a puppy when they knew we were looking.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Mini Schnauzer
2 x labradors

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

All three were purchased

Why did you want a dog?

Mini schnauzer for a pet after quite a few years without one. Labradors were bought as gundogs

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

Beastie still isn't trained  Labs - easy :D

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Yes, for both breeds

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

For the labs - easy to work with, easy to train but still make good family dogs. Mini schnauzer, well it was my mum's choice as they are a good size, friendly (well, most are. Beastie isn't :p) and also the fact they don't cast

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

They were all bought as puppies. For our gundogs, we prefer to get pups and train them ourselves. Again, Beastie was a pup. To be honest i don't think they thought of a rescue dog was considered...

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

Nope, my dogs are all awesome :D

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

JRTs! Can't stand them!!!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

I think the biggest issue of any of the dogs was Tina's eye removal. Nope, it wasn't considered when we got her.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Tina was through word of mouth, as was Beastie. Midget was found quite by chance after a tiny, tiny advert in the Belfast Telegraph! We rang up like week's after the advert had been placed and he happened to still have her!!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Cocker spaniel (show type)

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rescue

Why did you want a dog?
Companionship, something to walk as I felt a bit of a twit walking without one!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Harder! The little grotbag:rolleyes:

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Nope

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yep

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
I took him for a walk and sat outside the rescue centre with him, and I found the strokey spot on his head that sends him cross-eyed, and I knew he was the one I was looking for (apologies for vomitous-ness of this answer)

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult - living in a rented house, I wanted to try and avoid too much chewing if possible

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Every bloody time I have to tramp across a damn field to get him because he's gone selectively deaf, but only for a second!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
I would probably only have gundog breeds in future

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Recall, and I did suspect this might be an issue but not as much as it was...

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Right, this would be really helpful to be if people could answer honestly and it does not have to be one word answers, sorry this is possibly the easiest way I can do this, also if anyone wants to PM an answer feel free, this is not a judgemental posts, its actually for course work.

If I get no answers I will cry:(:p

Don't cry Cayla!:D

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Irish Wolfhound

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchased (you don't see many of these down the RSPCA!)

Why did you want a dog?
They are the best animal for sheer companionship and it doesn't feel like a home is a home without one! Also, he's a big softy but a dog this size would probably deter any unsavoury characters.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Much easier, I tend to overthink how difficult things will be but they are very receptive.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
We had to have a dog put down, a white German Shepherd bitch who bit me on the head when I was about 11! No idea what set her off, I was absolutly fine but my mum decided to have her put down.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes I absolutly love them for their character, but I've got to say the look on peoples faces causes me no end of amusement :D

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
I love the breed - their looks and temperament

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
We chose a puppy because at the time we couldn't find many adult wolfhounds that sounded suitable for us and with a dog that is as powerful as this we didn't want to have to encounter any unexpected, ingrained problems.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Nope not for a minute, although he does eat us out of house and home and when he runs at you when you get back from work he nearly knocks you over into the mud...

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
I don't like small breeds as you can probably tell! I can't imagine anything worse than a yappy little terrier or a lap dog. I'm not sure why - I just like the look of large breeds and they're not as noisy!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
We've encountered one major problem, he absolutley, totally despises being groomed. I posted about it on here before but still haven't managed to get anywhere. It's not even a vague dislike - our normal gentle giant who isn't fazed by anything will threaten to bite you and will run away if you approach him with a brush. He is terrified and we've no idea why

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
We were recommended the breeder by a friend

What breed/ X breed is your dog?

He's a Miniature Schnauzer

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

We purchased him.

Why did you want a dog?

We're dog lovers - family have always had them. A home's not complete without a good dog!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

Easier in some ways, more difficult in others! He's very clever, not really food oriented, toilet training and all basic commands were a breeze, recall is still dodgy - if he spots another dog he's off towards it!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

No.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Yes, absolutely - love the breed.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks?

Hadn't even considered the breed until another family member got one - we puppysat for a week and I fell in love. After reading up more on Schnauzers I was totally convinced that they were my kind of dog.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

A puppy. Mainly for selfish reasons. Dog's are part of the family for a long time, its such a pleasure to have them as pups. Also, years ago when I was a young child our family had a bad experience with a rescue dog, a wonderful dog but with huge issues, more than we could cope with. We felt with a pup we were starting with a blank slate.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

No - I've sometimes looked at different types of dogs which seem far more biddable (or maybe not as smart, lol) and have given a wistful sigh, but I am completely in love with my puplet. The rescue dog I mentioned - at the time I was young and adored him, completely blind to his flaws, those were for my poor parents to wrestle with!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

I like small to medium sized, scruffy terrier types. These would always be my first choice, but I would consider other breeds. I'd never have a really big dog, would never have a boxer (sister has one, its too loopy and too dumb) and I'd never have any of the bull breeds. I realise its a controversial topic, and in general I subscribe to 'deed not breed', but I just feel that if my dog turns on me or on another animal its just not capable of doing the kind of damage that a bull terrier type dog is. These dogs when they do turn can kill and for that reason its not a risk I would take.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

Can't say we've ever had any real problems with him, he's been a brilliant dog. Recall outdoors is an issue. He would not just run away for the sake of it, but he is totally deaf to me if he wants to be. I don't consider that a massive problem though, I just keep this in mind when we are out. Hadn't thought much about that aspect before buying him.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

We choose the same breeder that my Uncle had bought from. We already knew what a lovely pup he had bought, and we knew that he had researched breeders beforehand.
