It is nearly time (after a decade), to say goodbye to my beloved, wornout, well used - in every sense of the word - Mark Todd ;)

Mr Todd's replacement must also keep me: warm, dry, flexible, sane (ok, that bit's not essential or likely) cover my ar@e and not cost above 100 quid.

Any ideas?

Hi Mrs B, I've been in a Mountain Horse Forest Rider this winter.
Its done well so far :)
Covers my bum (important at my advanced age;)) keeps the howling wind out, is waterproof, has drawstring if you want to pull the middle in a bit more, and loads of pockets to lose stuff in :D
Its not superthick but big enough that I can layer well underneath it (my preference for the last layer is a zip up fleece thin jacket.
Can even go over my BP too for breezy wet hacks out :)

Not sure how long it will last, but only cost me £60 in Sept & still looks fine despite dowsings of icy rain, snow, horse gob & dribble as well as applications of mud on regular occasions, think it will be good to go for a few winters yet :)

Ooo! Ta, FF!

Will go online to take a look... Fed up of looking like I'm auditioning for 'Waiting for Godot' :o

Worth a look, mine is a red one (like to be visible to others if up the fields), tho mine was in a sale & they retail a bit more than that now.

I only ever use the drawstrings when going out for a 'standing around' session, its more comfy to have a looser coat the rest of the time :o :)

Happy shopping with whatever you get :)

I've lived in my reflective jacket that I got in the sale from Robinsons for £20, usually £49. Really warm although I've been described as fluorescent florence in it I have to wear reflective clothing for my RDA work so I'd rather wear something like that rather than a flappy little vest that doesn't fit properly.

I like Dublin work/ essentials/ whatever they're called now (if they're still making them) jackets. They're sort of in-at the waist, out-over-the-arse style, not those with elastic at the bottom. They were about £50 - £60, really warm, pretty waterproof, good two-way zips, loads of zip pockets. Just brilliant, all-round coats.

Have just LOVED the first ad I found online for the Mountain Horse one - it says this jacket comes with 'detachable hod' ...:D

Thanks too, Wiz201 - I'll take a look :) And I'll have at look at Dublin too, Flame. Ta!

^^^ I second that. I have two of them. :)

i have a caldene wax type jcket with detachable fur hood, was £80 waterproof, warm and has kept me snug in the snow and i can ride in it and it is smart enough for the shops too.
it might be called a
It comes in navy or brown.

Musto all the way. Worth the ££
Q

This. I have a Musto Snug and it's so lovely and warm and waterproof. Although I got it from an outlet and it only got £55 instead of £120! It has a massive collar that keeps your neck lovely and warm. I got it to replace a Mountain Horse blouson that was similar and cost about the same (full price), I loved that but actually think I like the Musto better!
