Please tell me this isn't true Frankei Dettori

redriverrock - your doing a fab job as Frankei's PRv- keep it up !

I dont see what the fuss is about - he is not carrying the horses, he is not running against person to person, he is weighed to compete against the rest.

Ok if in his alleged drug fulled race he had compromised someones safety then yes i understand - but how many in the hunt field, and a point to point are a little bit merry??

Exactly...anyone would think he had carried the horse over the winning line and lets face it this is a french investigation so obviously dosent really count ;)

EB please don't let this take away from your enjoyment of NH racing - there are bad eggs in every sport if you look hard enough, but IMO NH is the king of all sports and should be enjoyed by all!!

And yes I have worked in PR for a v well known racecourse for a number of years! :D

Hopefully its not true.

For those ripping him do you drink or smoke?? What sort of example are you setting to your kids, yes coke is illegal but smoking and drinking isnt a great example, let he without sin cast the first stone and all that ;)

Innocent until proven guilty and we have all done stupid things in our lives, its just he will have to deal with it publicly where as joe blo (excuse the expression) would deal in private.

Explains all those flying dismounts....

On a more serious note, i's on the back of all the papers tomorrow.

And agree, while I don't take or support drug taking, many more people die through the consumption of alcohol, tobacco, salt and sugar. But I suppose they're taxed and they keep the population down nicely.

Pmsl at the flying dismount!
Totally agree with the rest of your post :)

Poor him. Obviously crap role modelling and of course not condoning drugs etc but it must be pretty tough for grown men to maintain such unrealistic weights for so long. I would imagine (but have not idea) that amphetamines and Cocaine are pretty much par for the course.

If it is cocaine, then it would give him more stamina, as he wouldn't feel the fatigue. It would also help with any stiffness he has. So no, he won't have carried the horse over the line, but his riding will have been much better than without it, particularly during races later in the day. I know my riding is even more pants than usual if I'm stiff from the day before, have a headache or niggling injury.

Jockeys have to be extremely fit as they are riding probably 4 or 5 races on a race day and probably riding out in the mornings before racing. They have to have the stamina to ride a finish. Drug taking in any sport is a complete no no - its cheating, plain and simple because it will give you an edge which could be the difference between winning and losing. Frankie has been such an ambassador for flat racing that if found guilty will be a great shame and dissapointment.

From what I vaguely recall from reading his autobiography, he has been caught with drugs in the past, but got off with it.

I haven't seen the papers or anything on the web, but was the substance for personal use instead of performance-enhancement? I'm not saying either is acceptable because they're not, but it changes the point of view you look at it from. Unfortunately a lot of sports stars dabble in drugs in their private time, which seems ludicrous when they of all people should know that putting harmful substances in their bodies is dangerous and downright stupid.

If Frankie has taken drugs, he's an idiot. Still a damn good jockey though too.

Eh this isn't the first time. Word is its cocaine he tested positive for. It certainly hasn't harmed his career in the past. Re the split from Godolphin that had a lot to do with Barzalona riding the better horses, Dettori accepting the ride on Camelot without permission from Godolphin than any drug issue given that they hired him after his last drugs issue

My hubby says that he is on a drugs charge in France:eek::eek::eek:

For goodness sake! A banned substance doesn't automatically mean he has been snorting cocaine. It could be a "drug" that we mere mortals take routinely to make us feel better when we have a cold. A few years ago a racehorse failed a dope test. Turned out a groom had unwittingly fed him a Mars bar.

Firstly they have said they think it's a cocaine derivitive. It could be the tail end of any chemical but I must admit cocaine is looking likely. Flat jockeys are under HUGE pressures with their weight and the hours they work. They are up to ride work around 0500 and wouldn't get back home after a days racing until somewhere around 2000 depending on where the meeting was etc. They drive the length and breadth of the country to get from one meeting to another. Jump racing is physically very demanding but the jockeys do not have the weight limits that the flat jockeys have. I still believe innocent until proven guilty. Frankie has been a superb ambassador for the sport and I hope that this blip doesn't prove a too costly mistake and he can rebuild his public image. Whoever said that Frankie had lost his bottle - biggest load of cr*p I have heard!!

gosh what an over reaction, he's not killed anyone or peddled drugs to small kids FGS, he took something illegal and got caught, silly boy, he's not the first and he sure as hell won't be the last.

my blacksmiths helper has just been arrested for half kilo of hashish. Makes no diff to me and when he is a free man he will be welcome on my yard again.

Such a do about nothing very much :)

Innocent until proven guilty.

Fallon got done for drugs a few years ago.

I cant remember which Irish jockey it was but one failed a breathaliser at the races - the guy is completely tee-total. Breath test half an hour later - clean as a whistle. He had used mouthwash after brushing his teeth before heading on the whole 5mins to the track where he was tested.

Anything can happen.

Years ago when to Worcester races and Frankies horse girth had come undone well he came down to the finish still on board and saddle still perfectly in place. I was amazed at how he stayed on pure balance. The only thing he looked very tango and I thought he looked like he had makeup on? But what a brill rider/showman.

I will be gutted if he has taken illegal drugs. They are illegal for a reason and whoever he buys from if dealing they are illegal are peddling misery & crime.

But lets hope its just one big mistake and misunderstanding........kept a bit quiet if he was tested a while back? UM!

I will dislike him forever if he is guilty.Frankie you better have been a good boy or else!
