I have found this site really useful before but having my coffee break just now I decided to delve further back into Spider's pedigree. It is amazing, I was able to go back as far as 1635 and a mare called Old Bald Peg!

That made me look more closely at some of the names given to these poor horses back then.

I have to say it's not looking good for Spider.......along with a Camel,we have a Muley, Crab, Orville, Soreheels, Bloody Buttocks and Grey Bloody Buttocks!!!

However I do like the thought of a mare in 1731 called Look At Me Lads!

Who'd have thought that there was text speak in 1773........a stallion apparantly called Pot8os!!!

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com What funny relations do your horses have?

Buddie AKA Joiners Budweiser Welsh A has got-
''Pendock Playboy''!!
''Revel Pinup''
''Llwyn Tomtit''
''Llwynan Birthday Boy''
''Revel Shampoo''
''Bengad Christmas Berry''
''Revel Orange Pip''

Weird!!! who thinks of the names!!
His are full of welsh words!

Bella sire was a friesian so most of the names i can't pronouce anyway! Here's from her dam's warmblood side:
'Miss pratt'
'Muley'
'Tartar'
'Fanny'
'spanker'

Bizarrely, my Dales filly also goes back to Pot8os (apparently, never sure how reliable this is!)

www.allbreedpedigree.com/roandale+april

Click Spanham Heather's Lad,

Click Young Comet (think this is where it's gone wrong, not sure how much Morgan there is in a Dales pony!)

And there's Pot8os!!!

A lot of Dales also have a pony called "Cauliflower" in them, which i think's hilarious

One of mine has these odd names in his lines:

Chop Chop (hope it wasn't destined for the meat factory...)
Ratcatchers Daughter
Suicide (would have loved to have ridden this one...!)
Tramp
Perfume
Mince Pie
Queen of Baghdad
Bull Dog
The Apple
Whalebone
Margaret (lol, for a horse?!)
The Slave

ooh and I found Pot8os (1773) in mine too!

Does anyone know what the little coloured blocks are beside some of the names?

It would be nice if we could save the pictures....Could build up an excellent family history!

Pot8os was sired by Eclipse and was a prolific sire. As most TBs have Eclipse in somewhere it is not surprising that Pot80s appears.
The spelling should have been potatos but when the breeder instructed the stableman to write it down it was spelt potoooooooo.

They indicate common ancestors - i.e. the same stallion appearing 2/3 times in the pedigree

Tillys breeding includes:
- Perfectionist
- Camel
- Pocahontas
- Pot80s
- Clumsey
- Bay Peg
- The Slave.

That Pot8os got about a bit didn't he?? LOL!!

Ginga's is quite funny!

Templedruid Ginga is his name, he is abit inbred ! He has only got 1 grandad LOL

He also has
cauliflour

currycomb
broccoli
sprouts
cobweb
oxygen
tartar

AND Godolphon Arabia
He has a fair amount of TB, some barb, morgan, arab, hackney, welsh ponies of all sizes, but yet he is actually 16th arab rest welsh.

Don't wish to dampen anyone's enthusiam but can't anyone add details to AllBreedPedigree - who checks the entries? Anyone? It might all be made up??? (I just ask, I don't know...?)

Correct anyone can just go on Allbreed but the TB lines are usually very accurate thanks to the hardwork of Wetherbys.

Godolphin Arabia/Arabian is one of the founder sires of modern TBs. Records date back to around 1724so would be very difficult to find anything before then.

Camel who appears several times is only 8th generation TB so hence he appears in several horses pedigrees. Camel was around in the 1830s produced a very tough 15hh son called Touchstone. Horses who have Camel lines include Hyperion, Star Appeal and Vaguely Noble all prolific stallions and producers of TBs.

Maris Piper ( what is it with potatoes lol!!!)

gigantic
quiver
galopin
Mother in law

My Quarter horse, and the Paint, both trace back through Eclipse. I am sure I saw a Snake in there somewhere too.

Bloody Buttocks........oh dear, can you imagine it?........ "and here comes Peg Legg with Bloody Buttocks!" Too funny.
