Some of you might know of the various issues I've had with my boy - short background he is a 19 year old ISH, few lameness issues (arthritis in front feet and hocks, mild kissing spine). Anyway, he is now unshod and doing pretty well, and has been coming back into consistent work really well :)

He is so much perkier and happier in his work - in a way it makes me feel awful as he must have been sore before and I didn't realise. He's such an earnest, happy boy, and his lameness didn't become apparent until about 18 months after I got him, but I can only assume he was never quite right :( but he is doing so well now, I am just thrilled with him.

But I am so thrilled with him now. He is so enthusiastic, keen, eager, bouncy and just seems to enjoy his work. Put him out in the field and he was just so full of himself, galloping, bucking, rearing, spinning, and generally having a fab time with his friend. Happily I had my camera on hand and got a video and some pics of his exploits. Here he is with his chum Cooper:

So pleased with my boy, hopefully we will have many more sound days to come *fingers crossed*

Happy posts are never pointless :). What a lovely boy he is . . . and your obvious love for him shines through.

Its lovely when you make their lives better. It does flag up how long suffering they can be doesn't it. He's a lucky boy to have you as an owner and he looks more like 9 than 19. Well done.

Nice mover. : )

awww love a happy post!!!!

Aww. It's lovely to read something so positive! Well done. I think shoes have a lot to answer for...

Lovely post :D

Thank you all so much! I do love him dearly, he's a big pet :)

Aww, he looks lovely. That pic of him playing in the field is definitely one happy horse!

That's great news! He looks such a happy boy.

Gorgeous boy, doesn't look his age and looks very happy! as PolarSkye said happy posts are never pointless :)

Thank you all for your lovely comments! I am so lucky to have him. The more I think about it, the more I realise he is everything I could have ever wanted in a horse, and more. He is my first own horse, after several loans, and while it hasn't always been straightforward, it has always been worthwhile. The only thing I would change is I wish I could have had him from he was younger, but I couldn't have afforded him! ;) He is honest and forgiving and tries his best, I always feel safe on him and even when he's being an utter twit, he is so civil that I can only laugh. With his issues we have to slow down a gear, so no more jumping, but if he continues to feel so good I will start having lessons on him so I can channel his inner dressage divo. :)
