polo ponies ,,,,, the end of the road

Ask them??

Why would I ask them Amymay, I don't want one. I would have thought however that it was a logical thing to put in their FAQ section don't you?
It looks as if some here may be interested in buying them direct from the owners, so for their sake, could someone pass the contact details on? Leaving the organisation mentioned free to help others that aren't so desirable maybe.

I think it is about £400 plus transport.
I always worry that they have been sent to slaughter for a reason, not just that the owner is in financial difficulty, what if they are nutcases, how would anyone know they are mentally ok. Are they at the meatmans place now or are they still with their owner? They look in decent condition physically.

I think one needs to ask oneself "Would I donate money to a friend to buy a pony that had goodness knows what issues" and then "Would I then be prepared to pay a friend the full purchase price of the pony, plus whatever charges they care to add, in order to buy that same pony knowing that donations had purchased it in the first place so that my friend was profiting by the entire cost of the pony?".

It is a praiseworthy thing to help ponies in need and there are many to be found all over the country which don't involve handing out money to a limited company which wrongly describes itself as a charity.

There are many real charities doing excellent work who would use your donations in the manner you expect.

That's not what I ment, just letting people know the lastest. I'm quite aware hundreds go for slaughter every day you don't need to tell me that. Moral blackmail? What just stating the facts?? Suppose the fluffy bunnies would find that upsetting

Same here, more important to me is looking after and safe guarding mine to ensure they are safe. With the price off everything going up you have to be sensible else you could end up in trouble yourself.

Why are people criticising the op for wanting to help some horses and letting their plight be made public? If you don't want one, or want to donate, then don't, but if one home for one of those ponies is found, then this thread is worthwhile.
ERR may not be a registered charity, but it is a not for profit organisation. I seem to remember a member on here being in dire straights recently - can't remember who, and someone offered to let their paypal account be used for donations.....as far as I'm aware, that owner wasn't a charity either, but nobody was telling her to send her horse to slaughter...or is it one rule for one horse and one for the others?

It wasn't aimed at you, it was about the organisation!

Nobody is criticising the OP! There is a reason we are not supposed to discuss this organisation, obviously those reasons cannot be discussed! I would suggest you do as much research as you can into any organisation that claims to be a charity rescuing horses and 'rehoming' them for a profit, before handing over your hard earned cash!

Holly Hocks - This is a Limited Company. There is no such thing as a 'not-for-profit' Company. All Companies have to make a profit. What they do with these profits is another matter.

But we discuss the RSPCA, WHW, the BHS etc etc on a regular basis as well as various horse dealers. Research and investigation is my job so no help needed there, and thanks for the advice but I'll put my money where I feel it's due - for now that's the Brooke and probably always will be.

We are allowed to discuss genuine charities (not so dealers by name)! The Brooke is a very worthy and genuine cause and your money will be well used. Please believe there is a reason this type of discussion is banned. Read the French Rescue sticky at the top of the page - this is the same organisation that we are not supposed to mention the name of!

Not for profit companies http://www.duport.co.uk/company-formation/non_profit.php

I think they are a not for profit company limited by guarantee.

Anyway, I can't help thinking that alongside campaigning to raise funds to buy these horses, if ERR had just given contact details for the owner they might have found new homes by now.

Of course there are such things as 'not for profit'

Not-for-profit means that there are no share/stake holders to pay so all profit is REINVESTED back into the company. I know so, I work for one :D And thanks to it being 'not for profit' I'm about to receive a very healthy profit share bonus.

So, why does ERR need to constantly beg for money when they are reinvesting all the time??????

Not a chance! They would never name their sources in case people did go direct!

I don't think they do that, it doesn't make them any profit, oh sorry, won't pay their safehouse's bills.

;) Exactly!

Going anywhere nice?

Read it - very ambiguous. I clearly didn't read whatever happened first time round so it doesn't actually make much sense....except that we can't discuss certain issues....I didn't realise these polo ponies were French??? The sticky talks about "French rescue"...

The polo ponies are Irish I think, the organisation changed it's focus but....

Discussion about the issues surrounding the importation of horses which were intended for the human food chain is acceptable as long as no individuals (real names or online usernames), companies/organisations or horses are named or identified in any way or linked to

.........this is the bit that applies to all discussions, not just the Franch ones. You need to read between the lines I'm afraid. That was why I suggested research, there is so much info out there that would make it all very clear.
