pony books "Jill" ones (i think)

I remember that one. It was called Jill and the Perfect Pony.

What happened was that Amanda Applewood (I think?) had a pony called Plum who was amazing but Amanda didn't like riding. So when she was invited to take part in a riding club team with the Lockets she persuaded Jill to take her place so she could lie in bed all Summer holls instead.

Jill thought the Lockets knew that Amanda had been replaced but Amanda didn't tell them and Jill was so cross that she pretended to be Amanda and set about being as horrid as possible in order to make the Lockets loathe Amanda even more than they already did (Amanda had a reputation for being stuck up and smug). Much high jinks ensued as Jill had to pretend to be the perfect rider on a pony she had never ridden before surrounded by people that wanted to take her down a peg or two all the time wishing she could drop the act and just be plain old nice horsey Jill.

I am so sad that I can remember all this. I love those books though.

Wasnt there one called something like 'The House at Worlds End' - and they had ponies and lots of other animals ... read that ages ago !!

Was only thinking about the books I read as a girl yesterday. There was one story, series of 3 books about a boy who rescues the master of the hunts daughter when she falls off and is given the ride on a horrible pony as a reward (he hasn't got a horse) he goes on to help PC team win a quiz, and eventually gets a better horse at the end of the first book, the second one is they set up a riding school which closes when the girl goes to be a debutante then the third one is about what happens to him when he goes to be groom at another yard. The boy is called David, the girl Pat and some of the horses were sinbad, mistletoe, and folly. Can't remember what the books are called can anyone help

Loved them, read the lot, still re read them regularly as my girls are devoted fans.
there are at least a couple of blogs/websites dedicated to pony books, off the top of my head, janebadgerbooks and fimbra books.
Fabulous.

Yes Jinny had Shantih - there was one about the Radney Riding Club - girl called Noelle, boy called Henry who had a TB, boy called Alex who rode henrys outgrown pony ..
My favourites were K M Peyton - Fly By Night, the Team, Prove Yourself a Hero. Still read them now...

Girl called Ruth Hollis, non-horsey parents, lives on a housing estate - parents give her money to buy a pony, goes to posh dealers (McNair) and realises all out of her price range so buys unbroken NF pony (Fly) and keeps it in her back garden !
Breaks him in - basically trials and tribulations in horse-keeping ending with move to cottage with land and white rosette at local PC Hunter Trials. Excellent reading ...made me feel all nostalgic writing that ...

Happy Hack I loved Fly by Night!! It was about a non horsey girl who bought a little hill pony with her savings then muddled along for ages struggling to make ends meet but gradually got better and at end got round her Pony Club Hunter Trial.
Reading all these posts makes me wants to dig them out and read them all again...god knows where they are!

I was obsessed with Jinny as our names was so close (Jenny) lol.

I still have the books and re-read them. They seem so unrealistic now.

But wasnt Jill's mother a single mum? You never heard mention of the father, and they rented a cottage from an old lady didnt they?
I remember she had a "ghastly" cousin called Cecilia? Or soething like that, and they did knitting and flower pressing...

I think Jill's father was dead - I think it refers to it (briefly) in Jill's Gymkhana.

Yes, cousin Cecilia, who couldn't ride and thought she could and loved to read school books and press flowers and always wanted an egg for breakfast!

And don't forget April, May and June Cholly-Sawcut....

I have the whole set and have just given to my daughter

I loved them as a kid, almost made up for not having a pony

I have zillions of pony books but never feel the urge to read them now.... But then I am 41...

I read all the Jill ones and loved them, also one called Wish for a Pony, about two girls called Tamzin and Rissa, there was a follow up about rescuing horses and hiding them in a castle. Can't remember what it was called, anyone any ideas? It's bugging me now!

I've got a motley crew of Jill books, some new, some old, hardly any of them are in the same style! Still love them though, I read them when I want to escape into little girly pony land again....I'm 21!

I loved the Jill books they were updated a few years back as I remember reading them and everything was in 'old' money, when it was updated it didn't sound as good. Also liked the Saddle Club, I thought Jinny at Finmory was great, as were the Pullien-Thompson books.

Does anyone remember the one about a girl who had a pony on loan called Quest and she had a friend who had a pony called Duskie I think only two books were wrote.

I had the whole set and read and re-read them dreaming of the day I could ride, then could ride more than once a week!

The real proper dream was to have my own pony, and I read everything I could get my hands on, even the Jill books, so I would know what to do when the time came!!!
