Pony Club ODE Level 3???

Depends where you go!! SJ is max height of 95cm, XC 90cm. My then 14yr old daughter did a few last year, her first time trying eventing & found them pretty easy. :)

This was the last fence on the level 3 course at Burghley last year. Sorry its not a very good quality pic, its the only one ive got on the computer!!

Burghley is one of the more testing courses with a couple of doubles/ related step up stride fence coming out of a dark/ shaded quarry type thing. They tend to be upto hight and quite chuncky and have some decent questions to test you with. the showjumping last year was quite testing aswell, the last fence for instance was a 3ft3 high an 3ft3 wide off a tight turn, but do able! I wouldn't say no to going, but would suggest maybe doing that as a later event (in july). I love it, and if you could have gone to the hunter trial it would have been a 'gental' taster ;) :D I have a video of me and B doing the SJ there last year... I can send you link if you or anybody wants?
I think it all depends on where you go tbh, Soham and S.Notts run theirs round BE courses so are nice but testing at the same time. Hope this helps :)

When's the Burghley PC thing? And what's the ground generally like there? Looking for new places to do PC events to avoid the cost of affiliating!

PC level 3 is like BE90- all 3' max. On the whole, PCs are fairly scrupulous about the height of fences and more and more 'guidelines' are being added about going overheight. However, they have more free rein in what they can put in than BE so you can also expect more technical combinations, IMO.

ETA- PickledOnions, I spot Isleham! Will you be going again this year? If so, will probably see you in passing as I'm hopefully grooming for my sister who's doing the 1m class.

Lolo I think off the top of my head its around July 17th (?)! The ground was rock solid, but they spent around a grand airovating (sp) the whole course so was lovely to ride on! The course is designed by Cpt Mark Phillips' (Burghley course designer?) son and I have to say, they always try to make things the best! Wonderful course :D

We had a fab time there last year! it was my daughters 1st ode away from our pc branch & she & the pony loved it! they didnt find the courses too challenging either :D:D

I would have thought so!! We were very impressed, & she was quite happy as she worked out she had got 9th in her section (placed to 8th but she was amazed she did that well, it was only her 3rd ever ode!!!) Horribly early start though, its about a 90 min drive, but worth it!! xx

Thanks for all those lovely photos! I'm thinking of doing the Hampshire Hunt PC ODE at Iping in a couple of weeks - dont know if anyone can send any light on what the Hampshire Hunt PC courses are like? Also will they make you jump into water at level 3 - i know you dont at BE90?

When I did level 3 a couple of years ago this was the biggest fence on course and was a two strided double:

It rode nicely and was dressed well. We didn't jump into water I think all we did was canter through it and jump 2 strides after. There was one skinny which was quite a bit smaller and very inviting. The show jumping was up to height but wasn't wide over the spreads.

Good luck and have fun. :)
