I have a mare who has been wee'ing between 1-5 times everytime she is being ridden in the school.

She tends to do all this in the first 5-10 mins of being in the school then after that she is fine.

We have had the vet down he has taken wee samples, nothing was found in her results and all come back clear!

He suggested that as she is a mare she may be marking her territory to the other horses. She has had a foal before we bought her. We bought her as a 6 rising 7 year old.

She is 14.2hh and is rising 12 years old now.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks Ellie :)

I used to ride a pony that learnt if he stopped for a wee in the school, he could get out of a bit of work, unless there were any jumps involved :-/

Ah that's very interesting! As she hates schooling but loves jumping. When we do jump and go cross country she's doesn't wee at all! And lately she hasn't done as much jumping as we usually would.

I was just putting it down to her being a flirty mare!

Thanks for your comments :)

My Clydie mare does the same thing - she just missed the farriers head the other day! Sometimes she pees several times in the yard, not the type of peeing she does when in season though. Wee looks a normal colour

Yeah my ponies wee also looks a normal colour and I haven't noticed any excessive wee'ing in her stable only when she's doing flat work :/

However, she does have geldings either side of her field where she is out with another mare. I was wondering if maybe they are just making her come into season more often and for longer.

Have you noticed anything different about her ? Is she drinking more than usual? May be worth asking your vet about having her tested for Cushings. Excessive urination/ drinking is a symptom
