My pony has been living out for the past two years, but is now coming in at night.

I started bringing him in 2 weeks ago. I have been giving him ad lib hay (mainly as his old owners had said he can't be stabled as he weaves - so want to ensure he has enough hay to last all night) - he's been getting through most of it most nights!

Problem is we are in SE where there is a hay issue, so it is this years hay. As a result he has a bit of an upset tummy. His 'poo' is quite normal (just a bit softer than usual) - but there is also water coming out when he passes wind. This is sticking to his coat and its hard to get off without him kicking me! I'm going to try and wash it and put sudo cream on tomorro - but its a dangerous job! I'm also worried about him starting to lose weight.

We are worming this weekend and I have the vet coming for my other horses jabs next week so can get their advice - but just wondered if anyone had any tips.

He gets a scoop of happy hoof for dinner / breakast and I did add alfa bee today - but wonder if i should cut that out until his tummy is back to normal? I can't find any old hay (everyone around this area has the same problem) - would soaking the new stuff be a good idea??

Hi Lisa, I know what you mean about the hay! Would cut out the beet, add pink powders or similar, but I'd be reluctant to worm as even if it doesn't make his tummy worse he may not be able to absorb the wormer properly. Difficult one if you're on a yard with a rigid worming programme though!

Also I think there's been a bit of a growth flush with the grass which may have contributed.

Give natuarl Bio yougot sp ? a go it's work for mine and it's much cheaper then other's things. He had a funny stomach when we gave him new hay and when the grass came though a bit more. Put him onto this and all is ok now.

To clean his bum, check he isn't allergic to baby oil, then just wipe that down his bum. It will loosen it and you can just wipe him clean with a damp sponge, or I use baby wipes.

Hi - Is this Chris? If so, are you doing the jumping at Holt Farm tomorrow? I might wander over with Sam x

Great - might see you there if I go. I want to do 2'6 but think that will be quite a late one as they start small.
