poo-picking...quite relaxing? or hellish chore?

I hate it! To the point that I refuse to do it and would rather harrow. The whole point of horses being out is they are less work! I would rather muck out stables than poo pick everyday.

It's a bit like ironing, but outdoors.

No!

Ironing is the devil's own special chore, I do have an iron but I only keep it in case any visitors want to borrow it.

Poo picking is quite relaxing - OH and I do it every couple of days, I favour the 'OH uses the shovel' technique. I push the barrow around, spot the poo piles and pick up any bits that fall off. It's easy for us though, we only have two small paddocks.

OH doesnt do any horse care stuff (although he did take a couple of rugs off for me yesterday) but he walks round with me sometimes while im picking and he watches me and chats

i dont mind though. he's talking about getting something for him to ride
(very novice rider, wants to potter around and my biggest horse is a 16.2 mentalist, so no go)
ive said its ok as long as i can look after it and do all the dirty work, but he doesnt really *get* sarcasm

I don't mind it at all, i love seeing clean paddocks and it gives me a good chance to just watch the ponies go about their business...

Unless it is raining, I love doing it. It's relaxing and the neds often wonder over for a scratch, or you watch them rolling etc. It's also nice checking the field daily for anything that may be a possible hazard, or for any rubbish blown in. leaving a clean, tidy and danger-free field is a great feeling.

ironing, on the other hand ...nooooooo.

rubbish!

today i found a lightweight seat off a racing type bicycle!
how does a seat come to be anywhere but on a bike?! not the kind of thing you just mislay, surely?

generally I enjoy it as the horse follows me around and I get to chatter to her. However there have been times when I have hated it with a passion, such as in the pouring rain or having to clear up ofter a horse that had sadly left us and knowing that I was doing all the hard work for a horse I would never see again even though I loved it to pieces.

pah! housework!
thats done grudgingly or if my mother is visiting (dont get me wrong, aggie and wassername of telly arent coming round, is not that bad

), much rather be mooching around in a field

Sunny evening - relaxing quality family time...we have been known to have dried-out poo-flinging fights ( no, we're not normal)

Peeing it down.....its like one of those Greek mythology tales where you are damned to an eternity of pushing wheelbarrows of heavy soaking wet poo uphill in knee deep grass. No wonder I have biceps that would put Madonna to shame.

I can't say I enjoy it as I have a bad back and dodgy knees so pushing a full barrow is pretty painful, but knowing that by doing it I am helping to keep my horse safe from worms, flies and keeping available grazing to a maximum is worth every moment. It also gives me a chance to see how the grass is growing or disappearing, check the fences and look out for any ragwort, rabbit holes or bits of glass which seem to float to the surface regularly. The downside is that the other owners are happy to sit back and let someone else do all the work, so I'm clearing up after 5 without much help.
