Poo-picking who does it on your yard???

It has never been done on our yard...but grazing is getting worse so next year I think it will be introduced....but the problem is the yard is a mixture of DIY/Part/Full, so how does your yard manage its poo picking rota???......

Everyone on yard (we are DIY)
Having seen what worms can do to a horse I hate leaving poo in a field
It also annoys me how people throw it in the hedge - the whole point in poo picking is to remove it totally and prevent wormies!!!
 
On my yard we have larger fields for use during winter or for those out 24/7 365 days, with smaller paddocks if people want them instead. The larger fields are 25acres plus and liveries don't poo pick them , but if your horse is in a smaller paddock, usually about 3 acres, you do 2 wheelies a week (that's not the rules, just what we decided when mine was in a smaller paddock with others). Usually occurs that certain people always do it though, and certain others never do it. Just an observation though.

However, there is one small paddock with a giant mound of poo on it, and I mean giant, bigger than the muck heap, which is where everyone piles their muck, instead of taking it to the muck heap, as it's quite a walk, but surely that defeats the object?
 
We are all DIY and we all do 2 barrows per horse per week. However this was getting stretched so now the poo picking has to be done between Monday am and the following Sunday pm because people don’t understand that 2 barrows per week means every 7 days not every 10 – 12ish.

It is like having kids i swear.

Luckily on our yard we have our own paddocks so can do as we like. I poo pick everyday to reduce worms as my pony has always suffered. If you do it everyday it really doesn't take long - But i still hate it!!

Ours is all DIY and the rule of thumb is 2 barrows per horse per week when the neds are out 24/7, but as is the way with people, some of us do 4 or 5 barrows per week because we care, and others do 1 when they feel like it and know full well that idiots like me will just give up and go and do the rest. Why are people so lazy and ignorant about the benefits of poo picking???
 
Liveries do it...we are all DIY/assisted DIY.

Usually monday tea-time the fields get cleared then horses change fields for the week ( 2 groups of horses).

This time of year when they are in on an evening and the nights are dark we can poo-pick on a sunday or monday- the field is then clear and can be rested and the next morning we turn out into fresh fields.

Usually 3-4 barrows per horse....which can be akiller and hence why I pay my son to help ( he isn't horsey but is mercenary

on 5 day livery - the staff poopick our individual paddocks twice a week (tues/wed & friday) and we do it on a sunday.

LOL. I have a cob that produces 2 full wheelbarrows of poo every day (my other horse is being rested atm), so I think I'm tied up with my own poo-picking at present. However, I do find it so relaxing... it's my favourite job and one I am starting to find difficult because pregnancy is killing my back.
 
We're lucky as the horses are in 3 fields (or rather 3 networks of fields) The smallest two which get used in the winter are 20 acres and the largest (also hayfields) is 40 for 8 horses so we tend not to poo pick. The whole yard is on a worm count programme and they always come back clear.
 
FP, if 2 per week is not enough why not speak to your YO and arrange for a meeting to disguss with other liveries, maybe everyone could do more and then you wouldnt feel soo disgruntled??

I think horses being grazed 24/7 are likely to produce a lot more than 2 per week, but are all the horses in your field turned out all the time?? if some are stabled part of the time it is very likely they are producing less than your horses and it is probably reasonable that thye feel they dont need to do as much as you? this was the situation on our yard, and Its probably a little harsh to say those people dont care??
 
Our farmer runs our entire yard as DIY, but has stable liveries and grass liveries. It's 'supposedly' DIY, but I think the farmer doesn't know the true meaning of this as us liveries do 'sweet fa' barring looking after our neddies!

We have two large fields per herd. Graze one whilst the other rests. As soon as we move into the fresh field, the farmer goes in to sort the 'old' field so it has a proper rest. Our farmer doesn't rate poo picking, he harrows the fields. He says the manure helps put the goodness back into the grass. He also fertilises and sprays our resting fields.

Ours is a small yard and we do our own horses so no probs there. I generally do it everyday and quite enjoy it, plus having a clear field at the end of the day is a good feeling (me? control freak?)
the dog comes too and she loves it and helps (urgghh) as dogs do!!

I think some people are getting away lightly tho, my mare produces a barrow a day ie. 7 a week!

our yard is part of an organic farm, so everyone has to poo pick their own fields.
We share a field with another pony and so have certain days on which we have to do it

I think I'm going to be unique here and say no one!! The YO harrows the fields instead

Having said that there are a few very small paddocks with just one or two ponies in and their owners will poo pick but on the whole, it isn't done.
