I just wanted to let you all know that mat was kicked by one of the broodmares yesterday. She double barelled him, side on, trying to kick out at another mare. There was the most horrendous crack, as she broke his arm, about 3 inches above the elbow. He was in a tremendous amount of pain, and I took him to hospital as fast as possible. I could hear the bones grinding when we went around corners - horrible.

The x-ray showed a really awful break, and although they tried to put a full arm cast on to hold the break together, it didn't work. He stayed in overnight, and hopefully today, they are going to put a 6" pin into his arm to hold the bones straight.

He's been so brave so far, and as ever, his first question (after they gave him a huge dose of morphine) was "Are the horses OK?". He is so upset about the thought of not being able to ride for a while, he's feeling very down.

I wanted to let you all know about the accident, so that you could wish him well via the forum (if anyone wants to send him a get well soon card, PM me for our address). I will keep you up-to-date as much as possible, but unfortunately I'm not getting much info from the hospital so far.

I'll pass on any messages when I see him in visting hours today/tomorrow.

Thanks everyone!
Jamie

Oh no, how awful!

I wish him a speedy recovery! I hope he gets lots of grapes/choccies and mags/books taken in for him to pass the time! I'm also hoping the pin isn't too painful!

Get well soon bbmat...

Thanks for letting us know Jamie.

You're under strict instructions from the Patches household to pass on our sincerest warm wishes for a speedy recovery.

Give him a hug (watch his arm though!) from me.

Get well soon. Hugs to you too Jamie as I know how shocking and frightening it is to see someone close to you get injured. Sounds like you didn't panic though...which I would have.

Ouch , I hope the op to put the pin in goes well and that he recovers quickly.

Just as the good weather hits to. i'm so sorry for him.
