The bleeding has stopped, all wounds clean and dry at the moment and she enjoyed her breakfast with added bute but not so much her antibiotic injection administered by OH because I couldn’t bear to stick a needle that size in my baby!

However, I have just received a phone call to say that Daisy is bullying Ellie. I can only imagine that Daisy senses that Ellie is weak and is trying to assert herself as top horse. Luckily lady who rang me is going to move Ellie into the other paddock to get her away from Daisy. The last thing we need are more injuries caused by Daisy kicking/biting.

As if poor Ellie hasn’t got enough to put up with.

Is it common for horses to pick on a weaker member of the herd?

Yes it is common, and ideally Ellie should be in a quiet paddock with a 'friend' whilst she reacuperates.

Yes it is...

Before my cobbie was visibly ill (she was dying of cancer) she was bullied by a 2 yrs old. My cob was always 2nd in command after my gelding so it was quite a shock to see a 2yr old pony chasing my big cob off her dinner....

If you think back to the wild animals an injured animal is an easy target for hunters so wouldn't want them around in the herd. Thats my thoughts anyway.

Aw poor Ellie - nothing little kicking her when she's down - tell her not to worry and I'll send Ali over for company of there is anymore nonsense - he is 25yrs so he can be her toyboy

Poor girlie. As if she (and you) haven't got enough to worry about. Thank goodness, someone saw it and took quick action.

Yes, unfortunately, this is common. Agree with Samstar, horses don't think like us, and the sickest member of the herd attracts predators, therefore it is pushed out!!! Thankfully someone has noticed it and sorted her a quiet paddock to recover.

Hope she feels better soon

Not too sure where abouts you are (think you mentioned you were near Bawtry on a vets post) but I have a free/spare stable/paddock if you need one for her!
