Why do these things happen when you are away?
Got phone call when on train back from lovely weekend with my parents to say Nemo had nasty gash on his knee.
To cut a long story short, vet came out (while I'm willing train to go faster) and tried to clean up but realised very nasty. Had to box him up and take him to Newmarket - no easy job as the last time I tried to load him it took 4 hours! But as he had been shaking and not weight bearing, drugs kicked in and he was a good boy.
50 miles later cleaned and xrayed. Huge hole that vet got fingers in down to bone.
Had to have full anaesthetic to flush wound out. Septic in both joints and possible bone damage :(
Poor little man...
Shattered as didn't get home from Newmarket till 2am and can't get out of work today. Don't think I'll get much done though.
Big thanks to Clare from Kirsty's horses for calling and waiting for and with Jane, vet from Tyrrels till I got there, if you happen to read this!

Still awake, but wish I didn't have to be here, although there's nothing I can do while Nemo hospitalised anyway.
Harvey the Destroyer looking a bit miserable without his little friend this morning and I think I detected signs of guilt - wound suspiciously Harvey hoof shaped. Thank goodness he doesn't wear shoes...

Poor Nemo. :( that looks nasty. Sending him healing (((((((((vibes)))))))))) I hope he's all better soon.
((((((((hugs))))))))) to you. I hope you get through today.

OUCH....That one looks nasty.
Its great when you have friends to rely on when you cant be there for your poor horses.
Hope he makes a speedy recovery and you get him back soon :D

*HUGS*

Well Clare wasn't (but is now, I hope :)) a friend as such, I saw an ad in my local tack shop for Kirsty's Horses (professional horse sitting service) and Clare is my local 'horse sitter'. I rent land on my own for my boys, so there isn't anyone to help me out if I need to be away.
Poor Clare, this is only the 2nd time she has looked after them! But I have to say, if anyone needs a horse sitter in the Bedfordshire area, she is fab!
And I've just had my invoice through for this weekend and it is more than reasonable.
FC - Hope I am not in trouble - I'm not advertising, just sharing my experience!

OUCH!! poor boy (((((huge hugs for you)))) and vibes for horsey!!

Last year my horse had a very similar injury which was just as nasty and has made a full recovery so try not to worry too much! Keep us updated.

Nemo had dressing changed today and checked for infection. The infection in one joint is much better, but still quite high in the other, so is being monitored. He certainly won't be home before next week :( and then probably not home as such as will possibly need box rest and I don't have stables. Have kindly been offered a stable in a nice yard up the road.
He also had a sarcoid on his neck, so that has been lasered off today too. Poor little man, but better to have everything done in one go ...

Apercrumbie, did your horse have to have box rest and if so, for how long?
And thanks for all your hugs and vibes :)

I'm in Bedford, Nemo in Newmarket. All I have to worry about now is my part of the vet bill :-(
Oh and the fact that poor Harvey is still really missing his friend and will have to be apart from him for a good 4 weeks or so still as Nemo needs box rest and I don't have stables.....

Ceebee wow that was a long recovery wasn't it, my mare injured herself the same day as your lad, she had her stitches out a week ago Friday and as of today you can hardly see you had the wound, your boy must have been really bad, bless him, glad he's on the mend though and coming back to you xx

Have you ever looked at your horses name backwards????
It spells OMEN. Sorry just thought iv point that out.

Lol, thanks for pointing that out - it is all becoming clear now!
His name comes from the latin meaning 'without a name' (I pinched it from someone else on here) as we couldn't decide what to call him.
Wouldn't swap him for the world, but he was supposed to be a low maintenance field companion!
