And even then you cant be sure he will make a good child's first pony. You may have a good feeling but you really never know. It is a risk. Hence why you dont pay the silly money the people were asking in the ad. Littlies have to be so much more straightforward than bigger horses and ponies. But if he turns out ok and a safe one you will more than make your money back. If not, you havent lost much. Unless you paid £1250 for him LOL!

exactly why i dont pay, or try not to pay, more than their deadweight.

Harsh, but i dont lose out....if he turns out to be totally bonkers ridden, which i very much doubt after seeing him pounded up and down the market, then he has only one destination....

Well done you - he looks a lovely sort. If he doesnt turn out to be a suitable childs pony, then perhaps he might lean towards being a driving pony? Let's not write him off - he's a nice stamp of a pony and with some work and tlc, he's got every chance of being a good all rounder and a loved family pony

Good way to think of it!

the best way....

Sadly, horses/ponies are betwixt and between....that is why there is no firm legislation welfare wise for them..

they are neither classed as "livestock" or "family pets".

hence they legally, get a rough deal at markets and sales.

Cattle, sheep and pigs have firm legislation about transport and how they should be treated at sales, with Vets/ministry etc in attendance...horses/ponies have nobody.

Not harsh in my book. Just one of those things. Some ponies will be good childrens ponies and some wont.

I dont think we are writing him off. I agree he is a nice pony.

It is just that you can never be sure how safe they will be so you dont pay silly money. :)
