Poorly Pooch

Nope won’t eat won’t drink hence syringing, my vets have out of ours cover by another practice so no chance of seeing same person again this weekend. I’ll assess her in the morning. She’s not well. Only five so age on her side.

Well, it could be worse, at least she's keeping the water you syringe into her down. Fingers crossed for that she perks up soon.

We e been back to vets rash is allergic reaction. On strong dose of Piriton and fingers firmly crossed she’s on the mend.

Well it’s weird. She’s fine in herself almost back to normal but the rash which vet says is just part of same issue is still bad. Despite three lots of Piriton so far. I have e-mailed the vet this photo as really not happy but she’s in no distress. It’s odd!

Glad she’s ok in herself, which must be a relief. That rash looks quite angry

It’s awful! Feels warm to the touch but not itchy or sore. Very bizarre. She’s the weirdest dog I’ve ever owned in every way!

Is it raised or smooth?

Does it blanch paler, and then flood back pink, when you apply light pressure with a fingertip?

If you press a glass, like a tumbler, on the rash you will be able to see through the glass if it blanches.

Pretty sure it’s non blanching.

I would suggest you contact your vet again, explaining that the rash doesn't blanch with pressure and is getting worse rather than better with Piriton.

It is always difficult without being physically hands-on......it could easily be a vasculitis (immune reaction) to a virus or medication, but I would want to rule out any form of clotting disorder ......and just another standard question.....there is no access to anti-coagulant poisons(eg rat poison) is there?

Given that she is much better in herself, it is unlikely to be anything nasty/problematic, but I would suggest it needs checking...... don't panic!

Thank you. I’ve e mailed vet but am concerned. No access to poisons I’m aware of we are in the countryside though. Wouldn’t be surprised if neighbours used them.

Vet happy as long as she remains bright. Going to take her back on Thursday if still spotty.

Hope your little girl is on the mend, she’s very beautiful! I agree these Lurchers are a very hard breed to judge regarding illness.

Had a normalish day. Two mile walk and back to her raw food. Hoping to cancel vet appointment tomorrow as rash definitely less red.

Seems back to normal now. Gosh she was rough there for a couple of days! Scary!!

The trouble with lurchers and those type of dogs they can quite often be drama queens just to scare us, even knowing that I must admit I still get in a panic when they tell me they are dying . Glad she is now back to normal until the next time
