What breed of dog do you tend to see around the most?

Just pondering, everyone (non doggy types) have heard of jacks and labs, but I don't seem to see that many about now?

Don't know if it's just because I have one but there seem to be a lot of Border Terriers about now?

The most popular breeds of dogs that Popple plays with at the park most mornings are spaniels (mostly Springers) and pugs. :)

Regardless of what I see 'around', I live in a very rural area;) therefore folks don't tend to have their pooches on display. But as far as most popular breed goes I reckon the Lab would score pretty high (my personal favourite), my (very close)second favourite would be the Weirmaraner.:D

I wonder if people just "see" their favourites? Like when you are looking to buy a new car you all of a sudden see loads of them!!

I lovely Weirmaraner pup (big pup) came running on our drive the other day to see our lady Pointer... there was no one around looking for him... we walked around with him looking for an owner but no one to be seen... I was really hoping he'd been dumped and we could keep him!! But no, the new neighbours had left their gates open! :(

You're maybe right, just as when you buy a new car, suddenly there seems to be loads of them on the road?? or as you say, you are just more aware of them. Although, i do think the lab is a popular, common :D breed. :D

Springer spangles, collies and terrier types around my area. And not nice terriers either, horrid little types that do nothing but shout at anything that moves. There's one or two labs and retrievers, a puggle, 2 british bulldogs and a chihuahua (annoying little s**t) and a gsd. The occasional mongrel too.

Oddly enough, Danny's the only sighthound around here. I occasionally see my homechecker out with her greyhounds when I'm in the car but never up my area.

Round here there has been an explosion of black working cockers - tiny ones too! They seem to be the latest fashion.

Also (non working) just about everyone has a border terrier! My daughter is desperate for one ;)

But I believe (and stand to be corrected) that labs win hands down - I think that there are more labs than any other dog in this country.

Its staffies all the way over here in Chaville, Chavland. Huskies/Malamutes seem to be making a surge of late. Rotties are common too.

Round here if they see a springer they all think it's a drugs dog!!! (Quite amusing when they suddenly turn round and walk back the way they have just come!)

Lol. Its staffs,am staffs, american bulldogs, gsds,Ridgebacks, springers, akitas,Rotties round here. Also met a few malamute owners seem to be getting quite popular as you said, should really get a sled dog team going :) Plenty of burnt out cars for them to practise on.

Round here labs and terriers

Since we`ve had ours plenty of malamutes/sibes about :( all seem to know about us/our dogs.
About 90% of the people who have them have no clue and are letting them run about off lead or keep them on a short lead do a half route of the park and head home, most wondering why there dog isnt listening to them/walking on its back legs/pulling like a steam train.
We now drive elsewhere to walk

Beagles, mini-daschunds and Akitas on the way to work. In the woods, Springers, labs, westies and a massive St Bernard that Bear barks at-from the safety of the car!

Depending what part of the city ....

Staffies - led by lads showing their underpants.
Westies/Schitzus - seen round where the old folks live.

Then, on walks - GSD, Weimaraner, Ridgebacks, collies and lab/retrievers.

At the yard is it labradors or chihuahua's.

At the park there are lots of collies, then labs, then lots of little dogs of various breeds. I like the terriers best!

LOTS of gundogs of all varieties, plenty of greyhounds too. And a good mix of other types as well, but gundog types are very popular round here.

I can pretty much name all of the dogs in our small town. :o

- Several collies
- Several spangles, mostly pet cockers
- Several small terriers, JRTs, shih-tzus and so on, 90% of which are aggressive
- Several greyhounds, again many quite aggressive
- Several labs
- A matching pair of whippet sisters
- Two staffies, one owned by elderly lady, one owned by the only chavs in the village
- One bull terrier
- Two boxers
- One standard poodle
- One toy poodle
- One English setter (gorgeous!)
- One other Sibe
- One Afghan hound
- One beagle
- One Boston terrier
- Two husky crossbreed inuit type things
- Two German shepherds
- Two dachshunds
- One labradoodle
- One soft-coated wheaten terrier
- Sundry mutts :p

Around my Villiage/Town i mainly see Labs, JRT, Boxers, German Shepherds, Grey hound,
Boarder Terrier and Gun dogs.

I agree that when u have a brred you like you see them everywhere. When I got my GSP I saw lots around.

The Border Collie is very popular in this neck of the woods.

It's sooooo funny when we tell people we have a Border Terrier - they hear 'Border' and automatically assume we are talking about the Collie. Then we have to go to great lengths to explain the differences between the two breeds. The BT is relatively rare hereabouts, but JRT's are very popular out in the countryside, with the Yorkie and the West Highland being favourite townie dogs.

Ravenwood - your daughter can have Bear with the greatest of pleasure!;) He's a little monster atm - the sooner he has his bits adjusted, the better.:D

Our Kennels currently have about 20 GSDs in, barking constantly and crapping everywhere  GSD Mafia, you can keep 'em :p :D
Mainly we fill up with Staffies, Labs and Indiscriminate Terriers. I get loads of Cockers, Yorkies and Westies in to clip. Golden Retrievers are also pretty popular.

I'm in a rural and quite elderly area so all I see is Labradors with the men and then the women have jack russels and some cavalier spaniels being dragged along by old women!

Re Border Terriers, I never really saw any about but this year at Chatsworth Country Fair the place was swarming with them! Must have been 6/7 in each class they had for them, Male/Female and Pup and saw millions of them at Burghley as well.

Where are all these black working cockers? Only see them at game fairs. Two choc labs at rugby club. One black lab in the woods. One horrid boxer on a walk not going that way again. But I rarely see cockers.

Totally echo this post!

All the yummy mummy newcomers to this area have cocker spaniels - loads of them at the school gate, and they are mostly black and out of control.

Lots of collies round here - sheep area.

quite a few GSDs.

Agree that there are loads of labs. At every top level horse trials we've been to this year there have been hundreds of labs. Chocs especially! I too heard its the most popular breed in the country, and perhaps in the world.

Strange how dogs go in and out of fashion. A dog is a dog to me. I'd never have a certain type of dog, or pay for a pedigree - everything we have had has been thrown out on the moor, given to us or come from a rescue..

Downtown in NYC, it's French bulldogs, Boston terriers, English bulldogs, dachshunds, pugs, Yorkies, Pit mixes, "designer" hybrids, and a lot of mixed breed rescues, usually Shepherd or Lab mixes.

Uptown, it's all Labs, more Yorkies, and fewer Pits.

From our trips to Prospect Park in Brooklyn, where people tend to live in houses over apartments, Viszlas and Rhodesian Ridgebacks are everywhere.

I live near a huge park so im there every day with the woof woof lol I see alot of Border Collies, Boxes, Labs and Jack Russels. Id much prefer a nice Dogue de bordeaux lol :p

The two i see most in our area are a stunning white GSD :D And a gsd x lab.

Then we have

- A few JRT
- Staffs
- Gsds
- Rotties
- A great dane x dalmation *drools*

:)
