Dont know where to turn guys so im sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
So Ebi is still living out 24/7 with her foal and has been really happy till last Thursday when I realised she wasnt herself. Couldnt put my finger on it so checked her over - found nothing.
Fetched her out of the field at the weekend (this was the first time I could look her over in daylight and walk/trot her up with someone to be around) Well she was dog lame. So called the farrier as he was coming on Tuesday to shoe one of the ponies - He said he would fit her front shoes for me.
So yesterday I brought her up to the yard (of course foalie had to come with us) Well foalie dragged me up the hill and Ebi dragged behind (very unlike her) She stood lovely for the farrier however she was very uneasy on her feet. Had a long chat with my farrier who said shes worn her feet really down (neither of us can work out why) so he could only shape them and put shoes on as there was nothing to trim. Hoping that the shoes will help her we walked back down to the field. Shes very unhappy but i dont think its just being foot sore thats causing her lameness.
So she had some bute last night and Ive also doubled her joint supplement in case its her joints causing her the problems with it turning cold. She looked miserable this morning - happy to see me but miserable.
So I really havent got a clue as where to turn. Im hoping after a few days with the shoes on it should help but if not Im going to have to do something. What will the vet do for her? She isnt insured for either of her front feet or the ringbone anymore. So what should I do. Im expecting them to say that theyll do more xrays but what will that show me other than what I already know? the ringbone mightve got worse but does she really need to go through this?
I know what the end outcome is going to be I just hoped that it was going to a long time off. I cant bare to let her go as shes my baby but I know that if she is suffering and is unhappy then I must do the best for her.
What do you think?
