Well it seems that it's not really straightforward for a vet to diagnose pregnancy! After a quite lengthy talk about the pros and cons of scans, rectal examinations and blood tests and how effective these can be when used at various stages of pregnancy, she opted to do a rectal exam and then a blood test. She couldn't feel a foal so bloods have been taken and we will know next week now.

I'm concerned now that perhaps I have a mare who is very prone to weight gain. She's on very little grazing, soaked hay in small holed nets, small feed consisting of unmolassed sugar beet, Hi-Fi Lite and a vitamin and mineral supplement, and a handful of high fibre cubes in a treat ball once a day because she enjoys rolling it around - so I am flabbergasted if she's fat on that and am at a loss how to cut down her intake more if I need to!

Sorry to disappoint you all - no foal - just a very rotund grass/hay belly!! It took ages to hear back from the vet - I literally got a call last Friday. Madam is now on restricted soaked forage and increased exercise and is starting to look a little less huge already.
Thank you for coming back to tell us.
