I'd love to see the contract for the original investors. Theres never a guarantee of getting your money back and I'm sure the asset would have to be independently valued. You dont get to go, well I love him so hes worth 10 million quid!

I think this is her buying out all the investors, from my read. She said something about no longer wanting to run him as a business.

So perhaps the horse has dropped in value and the investors are willing to take that hit, or she owned a share already, or she has already been gifted some shares. ยฃ80k now won't make all the investors whole if they put on ยฃ100k.

Like any business, if you seek investment then you must also be aware that investors look for exits and expect to be able to sell their share at an increased valuation. Otherwise it's not really an 'investment'.

I'm not sure of the specifics with this horse and it may not be relevant to this person, but it's a common mistake that a lot of company founders make to overvalue at the start and to go starry eyed over big numbers without properly considering that it's your job to grow them.

In this case, is this a social media person? There is something about ad campaigns in her post. Is it possible that the horse is generating advertising revenue? I know someone who makes six figure a year off her dogs so I suppose they are valuable business assets in that sense. Maybe it's the same for this horse, if it's not a massively promising sports horse.

Gosh sometimes I feel like a right wally pushing myself through yucky personal circumstances to get a job and earn my own money so I can do things like horses, off my own back and out my own pocket. Be much easier set up a crowd fund seeing as this how folks seem to do it these days!!

(This is sarcasm.)

Agree, cynically I think โ€œoh when Mark died I could of made a few grandโ€ it seems a go fund me is the answer to everything these days from absolutely horrific life experiences to a stubbed toe.

Near me there is a woman, a โ€œrescueโ€ but not a registered charity. Go fund me to feed the horses over the winter (many of which are rideable / saleable) and surprise surprise a new one has just arrived. It is very clearly a hoarding situation which will go horribly wrong.

Itโ€™s madness that no one says โ€œactually you just canโ€™t afford itโ€

I donโ€™t think begging posts to make one person have a very expensive luxury item go down well on here, on the whole.
Why? We all love our horses. Donate if you support, dont donate if you dont. Just no need for people to be so personal. I thought this forum was for all horse lovers. There are many causes out there which absolutely boil my p155 but I would never knock those who support. Im appalled that people are being so rude about how others (who work bl**dy hard for their money) choose to spend it.

On her fb page she says about fundraising for the 55% share

A few people have said set up a crowd fund to raise the 55% needed to buy out owners who want to sell, it would be to keep him with me for life, I donโ€™t want to go through this a 3rd timeโ€ฆ and if it doesnโ€™t work itโ€™s refundableโ€ฆ but if youโ€™re an owner looking to invest into a really correct horse or someone looking for their best friend you wonโ€™t find a nicer horse.

It's a good thing to discuss

I have had people offer to sponsor my horses during my horsey life for many years

I worked hard to do it myself, but have been sponsored for lorries, hay, holiday cover, rugs, lots of stuff, at the mo the horse are at a sponsors stud farm which I have been offered legal rights of permanence, sole use, help with care.

They even built a huge arena

I have actually asked for nothing, ever.

I think if if people see hard work going into horses they want to join In and be part of the journey and enjoy

One of the horses is a rescue, I am old, I am grateful.

If people want to offer help for animals I am all for it.

If they need help and ask, I am all for that as well especially to secure a horses future

Guys, it was just shared incase anyone felt like donating. It wasn't shared so that those who dont agree with the cause can annihilate those who do. I have donated. It doesn't make me wrong.
TBH, I, and I suspect most others, thought you'd put this on as a wind up - like the silliest thing you've seen on Facebook thread, or similar.

I am amazed that people have donated 24K!!!

Maybe I should start a Riggers Go Fund Me ๐Ÿค” He is sweet and bills are horrific this year!

No I put put it up incase I got anyone would like to support her. With the amout of hate it has created and how its now made me feel, husband has just said I should just delete it.

Iโ€™ve been trying to figure out what my
issue is with this particular fund raiser.

This is not an abused, injured horse. This is good level competition horse, that the rider wants to keep competing with. Iโ€™ve seen a few riders in similar situations set up consortiums, or do some sort of โ€˜tit for tatโ€™ situation where donors get some sort of reward (updates, pictures, social media chat, whatever).
If it had been set up like that, then I think it would be going down a lot better.

Ill delete it then.
I don't think you can delete a thread, this isn't like Facebook.

Once something is posted, you have a time period to change or delete what is on there. Even if a post is deleted, if someone has quoted it, the original version they quoted will still be there in the quote box.

After that editing time, it is there for good and the best thing you can do is to set it to ignore. Then it will fall down the pages once people have finished discussing it.

I do feel for her. She evidently fell foul of not having enough business accumen when setting the thing up in the first place, from what I've seen she has trained him with great care and a light hand and now she has had the rug pulled from under her feet (fairly) but she doesn't now see him as an asset, she loves him like a pet. The horse world is cut throat and if you don't have someone to advise you, or you aren't naturally cut throat yourself you can get chewed up and spat out.

However, it's also not something I would donate to. I do donate to some gofundme's, my local dog rescue which does fabulous work or a one off 'help this old veteran not lose his house' but not this.
