Just to add I don’t blame Milly for doing whatever she can to keep him. I just hope it’s not by crowdfunding to allow sellers to cash in. It’s a real shame she didn’t have a profit share agreement in place.

Yes it sort of feels like the right answer would be a change of approach from the seller. Especially if the horse is starting to feel his hocks.

This is why I'm not made for commercial horse arrangements though. I'd probably be losing my six figure investments left right and centre to send them hacking.

Milly is really lovely , this absolutely won’t be a scam.
Just maybe a bit young and naive
She loves the horse and obviously wants to keep him, the owners clearly have her over a barrel as it seems they are offering her him at a price or saying they will send him abroad to be sold. They don’t have a buyer in the uk ready to pay that .i haven’t donated because i don’t feel the owners should be getting a free ride here.

I absolutely believe that the money would be donated to a good cause though if it doesn’t reach the amount. She is very very genuine.

@smiggy you have captured my feelings well - I won’t donate because I don’t want to reward the sellers! Who sound like they are behaving appallingly. Inventing a figure, not allowing a valuation, threatening her with imminent removal of the horse even without a buyer. (I think he’s going today? And she has 2 weeks to get him back?). Maximum pressure on her, no thought for the welfare of the horse - just moving him around like he was an oil painting not a sentient being. It’s horrible.

It’s like anything I guess, depends what it’s worth to the seller and what the buyer thinks it’s worth. There’s a small tour horse on HQ at the moment for £100k.

I was horse shopping for a friend recently looking for an Intermediate schoolmaster and was shocked at the price of dressage horses tbh. People who want well trained dressage horses clearly have deep pockets
Or the ability/cheek to start GFM pages!

I mean the investor/majority owner can generate whatever figure they like.

Not that I’m going to be able to, but I’d be interested to see what contract was put in place. I’ve been involved in syndicate / contracts for competing horses.

If there isn’t a decent contract in place then it may go in Milly’s favour.

All she has to say is ‘we aren’t buying you out’ put your shares on the open market - then sit back and smile when no one buys them!

ETA: I’ve just seen a FB video from her talking about the horse going to Europe next week - which doesn’t sound great, seems like the majority owner has overall say in what happens

I guess the problem is the majority owner, who wants to sell, is the deciding vote on what happens to the horse as they own 55%. So they can (I assume) place him in whichever stable they like, in whichever country they like.

I'm not super invested or educated on the dressage world but have to admit I don't really understand the outrage about the GFM. There are plenty of threads on here about the fate of higher level competition horses and the rider seems kind, sympathetic and genuinely invested in the horse. I can understand her not wanting to see him shipped off to Europe to be pushed up the levels by riders who only see him as a commodity. If she gets to keep him and offer him a home for life as she says, then it can only be a good thing for the horse. I think she's been honest about the situation and the facts and the outcome she hopes for if people choose to donate. Criticism of the price tag is fair, but it sounds like the rider doesn't have much say in that, and the intention behind keeping the horse in a safe environment is hard to argue with. Nobody is under any obligation to donate and if that's where people want to place their money, what is the harm? Of course there are better causes out there that would benefit from the money more but people spend money on luxury hobbies every day that could well be donated to small charities etc. - if they want to donate because they feel invested in the horse and the rider's journey with him then that is their prerogative. Nobody is being deceived, misled or scammed. If they don't support it, just scroll past.

Wasn’t he out of action for 18 months ? Soundness issues. The GFM if 80k for 50%? Im sure she will reach the target. She has a big fan base.
