As above really. My friend's cousin is selling a lovely prospect, she told me all about it, she looked lovely and offered her to me on a trial basis, I was about to accept, when she said 'I could drop Scarlett off later on in the week'. I then have had to come away and think about it, she is a lovely mare but I'm afraid it would confuse my daughter, she is only 4 and I wonder if it's worth the hassle. There are plenty of prospects out there but I like this one:(.

Does anyone have someone close who's name is the same as their horses?
 
If you think the horse is the right one for you then it would be a shame to miss out on it because of her name

Why not just change it to something different? If you don't want to change it completely what about calling her Lettie?

The family my sister works for has this- a pony and a child share a name... So say they're both called Jamie, child is Jamie and pony is Jamie Pony. Really easy and there is very little confusion at all.
 
I have a horse who when I got him had the same name as me. I changed his stable name. Mind you, even if we hadn't shared a name I'd have changed his name anyway as it didn't suit him.
 
I would think that your 4YO daughter would be clapping her hands..a PONY with the SAME name!!! Children think in a more simple way, and I'm sure she'll be enthralled that her pony has her name. As Lolo said..Scarlett, and Scarlett-Pony :)
 
We've had name clashes with both people and between horses, you just develop a nickname or add pony/dog/etc to the name, even for a 4YO I'm sure that'd be fine :)
 
My YO's daughter had a pony called "Jack Pony" and a brother called "jack boy". I bought my mare off a girl who was known by one abbreviation of a name and my mare has a different abbreviation of the same name.
 
have worked on a yard with 4 horses/ponies called jack and a livery called jack

fat jack
black jack
baby jack
and jack

it is fine I would not pass on a pony because of it, scarlett pony and scarlett-no problem
 
I have two children aged 8 and 9. One is called Henry, and our pony is Henry Pony. It works fine. When we bought HenryPone I said 'we'll have to change his name', but it turned out that that just wasn't an option. He comes with a whinny as soon as you call him. He knows his name so well, it wouldn't have worked changing it. You may find (as we do) that it actually works to your advantage. When the two of them get a little bit too gung-ho, one 'Henry!' shouted in a particularly mean-Mummy way brings them both screeching to a halt. Win, win!
 
I'd call the horse Red :-)

My mare was called Dorothy when I bought her, couldn't shorten it to Dotty as there was one on the yard so I call her Dee. Suits her (and easier to shout across the field!)

No big issue .... Give the mare a pet name when your daughter is around like Letty

This!! Our dog we have had for 7 yrs has the same name as my connie I took on last year - Id look at it as some sort of sign op:)

When I bought my mare she was called Bay Leaf (it's the last two words of her registered name) and I 'shortened' it to Bailey. She doesn't appear to have been effected by this and they actually have similar sounds.

(I keep threatening to name the first born 'Rufus 2' after the dog!)
 
My dad has just named his puppy the same name as my horse. The cheek of it. But they are both similar. Big and chunky and snore when they sleep. So make sense now hehe
 
that's the simplest problem in the world! Change the name. We did with both of ours because we didn't like their original name. Problem solved
 
Our dogs, horses and cats all go by nicknames; generally my husband makes them up because he can't remember proper names and unfortunately the nicknames always seem to stick so it wouldn't bother me in the slightest really. He's even done it to other horses on the yard and their owners have started calling them by the new nickname - oops :-/
 
I bet your child with love having the same name as her pony,
Seems a shame to pass up a good pony with a trial for the sake of a name, call the pone Lottie or as other Lettie, are ask your daughter would like to call her
 
We have an Edward and an Eddie (grandson and pony - in that order) - brilliant at PC - he loves it! Just shorten pony name and your daughter will think its really cool!
