Potentially, we are on the look out for a small (under 14.2!) cobby type for my sister to school and sell on. Don't mind naughty and silly- as long as it's not malicious, she'll cope fine. Do you think we'll be able to find anything like that for under £800?

And where best to look?

yeah but I don't know where you'll find it. Most people aren't going to advertise saying its 'naughty'.. also I'd imagine it'll only be under £800 if it is malicious or slightly dangerous! I honestly don't know where people advertise difficult horses, I think people either tend to fix them, keep them, sell them cheap to dealers or put them through sales. A lot of people won't risk selling something bad anymore and if they do they probably won't tell you and it wont be under £800!
Best bet would probably be to buy something from the sales? You'll find something cheaper there, probably get a youngster, only downside is you won't know its past.

PS. look on project horses might be something there. Or put a wanted ad on Horsequest, i bet theres loads out just not advertised..

I got my last horse from the local Ad Mag, was advertised as 'Not a Novice Ride', decent showing results but a bargain price - I knew he was going to be a project horse, but lots of schooling and cuddles paid off!

You may find you look a lot of horses until you find something suitable, but they do exist, and tend to be the smaller adverts in the ad mag....!

i'd go to the sales and look for the 'private' sellers not the dealers, that way you can find a bit more past history. you could always chance it and get a few really cheap ones and play the numbers game.....

We're in Norfolk- ideally after something which will appeal to the PC market. Sister has reschooled in the past for other people and the easiest to sell on were the little cobs who could turn their hooves to everything even if they weren't world beaters.

So horsemart, and local ads? We don't mind naughty at all- she's been riding naughty ponies her whole life (because why get a nice pony when there's a raving lunatic available?) so bucking and napping and general bad behaviour isn't a big putting-off factor thing...

because you may struggle to sell it! Great idea for a keeper, not such a great idea for a relatively quick turn around to sell. Do understand your logic as thats exactly what i looked for when i was last looking, something quirky that would give me something to play with! My intention wasn't to sell on though.

we picked up my last horse for £800 to sell on. she'd be great for PC! altough we didnt know she was pregnant and was a trotter, shes a perfect teens horse. so it is possible ;)

Put a wanted advert in your local freebie-type newspaper and your local RC or PC newsletters. That's how I've always got my project ponies in the past - I let them come to me! And my budget was even less than yours at £500, the ponies I ended up with where scruffy 4 & 5yo's off a hillside, you just have to look through the scruff!

I have exactly what you're looking for - still a bit loony but will be great for PC with a bit more time. Im in no massive rush to sell him as I am working on him all the time. However he is priced at £1500 ono. This is because he is a really lovely little NF, registered, he's only 5, an angel to handle and so easy to do in all ways, safe and good as gold out hacking but is still just very silly in the school!!!!

There are definitely ponies out there for the price you are after though (whispers... I got him for £250, although I did have to completely rebreak him as he had been ruined and become dangerous!)
