Eeeek. I’ve got a bit of a fear of electric but always thought you had to actually be in contact with something. I’ll have to up my caution levels.
We had a power line go down in our field and my OH rang the electric company to tell them, they knew it was down but couldn’t identify where. The person at the other end was just ‘get out of the field NOW’. I am also paranoid about electric

Very sad indeed. I’m not very clever with electric but how did it actually get to them? I mean they won’t have all been touching the metal, unless in panic they did. It doesn’t flow through concrete floors does it ?

Of course the fluffy brigade are out in force vilifying the owner for daring to keep working dogs outside and not safely in the house.

Yep I was wondering if the hot takes had started, why I binned most groups and news sites for this reason, some people have nothing to do except sit around all day and judge other people.
If their house had burned down, would they have been cruel for keeping the dogs in the house?

It's horrific enough without all the Peter Perfects sharing their crap opinions.

The floor will have been wet with rain and water will conduct electricity. ?

So sad and surprising too, the UK Power Network men are always out round here cutting off branches near power lines, you would like to think this sort of thing can't happen
A Canada goose brought down the power line in our top field. I posted about it at the time. Luckily, and randomly, the line was powered in such a way that the loose line became inert immediately after it snapped. The live end was still secured up on a pylon.

It happened after dark. I happened to see the shower of sparks from the house and the power flickered, but came back on. We found the downed line by torchlight and exited PDQ, grabbing the horses in.

We had a power line down last year in the horses yard area next to the metal barn / shelter. Luckily horses were out in the field, could easily have been under it though. Idiots some way away started cutting down a tree and then thought better of it, leaving the trunk half sawn through. It came down onto the wire in the next storm, pulled partially over two posts and snapped the one by our house. ESB Networks guys were out for hours on a Sunday night sorting it and pretty furious about the cause, don't know if anything was done to the perps though. Only good bit is we now have strong new posts all around the house.

you are bloody joking ?

Absolutely heart breaking, not only will they have lost their wonderful dogs, it’s a big financial hit for the stud I would have thought. Such a tragic accident.

It's not random TP, the system is designed to go dead if the line is broken. It's a rare accident where it isn't, and in the case of the dogs it sounds as if the poles were brought down but the line was not broken, so the power stayed on. Our so says my resident power engineer, anyway.
