Just put a nice big bed down for Bear and he's snug in his stable.
He has a blood clot in his throat right next to the artery. All horses (bar his friend the mini shetland
)are now out in the field to minimise disturbance for him as if his blood pressure rises then the clot will move and that will be it
My cousin told the vet if the odds were good then the op needed to be done as he's such a special boy to us..but apparently the clot wouldn't be easy to get to and the odds are he'd die during it because of where it was and how difficult an op it would be. So it was decided he'd be brought home. The vet assured us that although Bear would bleed to death, he'd pass out from blood loss and would feel no pain - we needed to give him a chance.
The infection was caused by something in the air, we all breathe it in but 1 in a million horses react to it and this is what caused it. Little research has been done on it as so few horses have survived.
If he makes it through the night (which the vet highly doubts), he has 5 weeks until he's in the all clear.
He's been given everything he needs and has been given the best chance to fight through this..we're all praying for a miracle.
