Preloved classic!!!

i dont even know what breed my puppy is, looking at her she is about 3 crosses. She was literally offered to me free and delivered to my house because the person who had her didnt want her and knew it would be a good home. She is getting neutered ASAP though as the amount of dogs in the world is enough as it is without my 'bit of everything' putting herself in there. The people i know who breed are often wary of people buying puppies around christmas time so hopefully other breeders will be as well. i feel extremely sorry for the little dogs who are bought for chidren, my sister wants one and she is 19 so should be responsible enough by now! :p

I agree with this but cannot understand why someone who wants to educate people would belittle and insult them in the process

I agree also.

But then, I'm one of those who will rescue more or less anything, both my two cats were feral when I got them, neither have any bloodlines whatsoever, and I don't care. Both are neutered so no unexpected babies going to occur, and they're ratters and pets. Who gives two hoots what a pets bloodlines is like, aslong as they're in a good home and are in good health for their age (no genetic problems etc).

Education is brilliant, but rudeness is not. I'm not likely to take on board anything that s4sugar has said due to her rudeness. Why should we listen to someone rude enough to insult another members' pet?

s4sugar is one of a handful of people on here if I wanted advice I would contact, she tells it like it is, unfortunately some people cant handle that. Ive seen photos of peoples dogs on here who are grossly overweight and most of the other posters gush and say how lovely, same as the puppy pics. Very few people on here are honest enough to give it straight. Go on the petforumscommunity and there people are brutally frank making AAD look like a kindergarten.

There's a massive difference between telling it like it is and being nasty. That's one thing I hate. Blatant rudeness disguised as "being honest". Brutally frank and nastiness are not the same. Some people don't seem to know the difference.

The only thing I can see which S4sugar said was he did not look like a well bred Chi and to look at Unabs Chis for good examples or words to that affect. I dont see that as being rude just being honest and that was in response to someone saying he was a well bred chi, correct me if Im wrong.

I don't understand why s4s had to be so nasty to get her point across - which wasn't really relevant as I'm not breeding or showing my dog anyway so it doesn't matter whether he is the best bred going or a mongrel. I think he is beautiful and that's all that matters :D oh and that he is healthy :p he just so happens to be a chihuahua, regardless of what the expert says :p

Yes dobiegirl - but my dog is well bred for the fact he has no health problems like many chihuahuas do. He is NOT a show dog so does not need to be a crufts standard chi. Surely a healthy chi is better than an unhealthy chi that's bred to be a show dog?

Haha Elsiecat, he is getting the chop Monday but I have 3 days to find an awful bred chi bitch, make babies and send one over to you for £200 :D unfortunately their legs will be growing out their heads and eyes on their paws. Hope that's okay! :D

Maybe try breedmydog.com???

Agree^^^
No comment re the well bredness lol, just agree with DG that is how I read it.

I think there is serious difference of opinion on what "well bred" means. Rachel thinks it means healthy and there us a LOT to be said for a breeder consistently breeding healthy dogs and then there is Sugars view (which many would agree with) that it is not only healthy from tested parents but also from parents with proven results, ie from the show ring and therefore true to the breed standard. That does not mean Rachel's dog isn't very cute and I'm glad he's found a lovely home

What makes you think Crufts standard Chis are unhealthy, dont believe everything you saw in that programme, ultimately the people showing are often wanting to breed and so health testing is a priority.

I think the fact you said he was well bred caused the confusion, well bred implies he is from numerous show winners and he dosnt look like show standard and I think that is what S4sugar said. Of course you can have well bred and health tested which is why I think she asked what health tests his parents had.

I think he looks like a bonny little dog and he is much loved and I think I posted something similar when you posted on your own post.

Galaxy you said it so much better than me.:p:)

He is well bred in that he is a healthy dog. That's all I care about, not whether he has got showing lines descending years back and all being crufts quality. That would be the least of my worries. His parents just so happen to be kc registered as is he. But like I've said I'm not breeding from him so will not be creating any more ill bred dogs :)

If a well bred dog means fit for purpose then Rachaelstars dog is, surely? He is healthy, vigorous and happy.
He is also much loved, remind me never to post pics of any of my dogs on here for fear of a slating about their looks!
I doubt my lurcher was well bred but she is the ultimate fit for purpose dog.

Wow, this thread's gone bonkers!

Both of my dogs are well bred on paper but neither of them are physically perfect examples of the breed (too big, too small, weak head, coat fault, overshot, older one has a windy character etc) according to the breed standard, I love my boys but I'm not blind, I can still critique them. That's how I came to own them in the first place, one came from a show breeder because he was never going to make the grade, the other is a long coat and his working trials owner could not be bothered with the coat maintenance.

People can criticise the looks of my dogs all they want (and they have) and I have seen one user's GSD here called 'crippled' and 'deformed' and I can't remember too many people leaping to her defence. But I suppose watching one TV programme makes people experts on dog breeding (I watched Question Time last night, I'm now a political commentator :p)

I've had my young dog to my face described as a poodle, a kitten, a Tasmazian Devil, a Belgian shepherd, a collie cross, and are you SURE he's not a collie cross, because I've had one just like him, you just have to grin and bear it and grow a thick skin. The older one used to be called 'Humpy' or 'Sheepy' at training.
There's one we call The Elephant because he is so big and one called the Half and Half because he is crossed with a Belgian but his owner tries to get him away with being a full GSD :p

Crikey I call my own Slopey Backed Cripples because the breed was taking such a slagging on here at one stage, I might as well join in the fun.

RS, he looks like a smart little chap, enjoy him :)

When S4sugar and piebaldsparkle turned this into a thread criticising rachaelstars' chi, that's when it got rude. If rachaelstar had been asking for crit on her dog I probably would have read the thread and closed it, as S4s is obviously very knowledgeable - that's not even me being sarcastic. S4s has obviously been working with dogs for a long time and I do take on board what they say, but the thread was not about criticising that chi and rachaelstar has said that they though S4s was being nasty and IMO that's what made it rude.

How was PS and S3sugar being nasty, I think some people are very thin skinned, as someone said in NL when people put up posts you are going to get a whole range of answers not all of them complimentary. Its something we have all experienced and just adds to the rich tapestry of the forum, sometimes you just have to take it on the chin and live with it as reallife is no different.

It was nasty because the subject of the OP was about an ad on preloved and it was quickly turned round to being about how poorly bred rachaelstars' chi is. That's how they were being nasty.
Once again, there's a difference between "uncomplimentary" and giving honest advice.
Real life is no different you're right, but if someone turned a real life conversation into how crappy my dog was, I'd react in the exact same way. It might seem like I'm a bunny hugger, but I'm not, I just don't go round insulting people and claiming it as my right because I'm experienced.

He is a real cutie Rachael, but very like my friend`s MinPins,no matter he is lovely.I can quite understand anyone doing breed rescue ..and there must be piles of it in Chi`s...getting browned off. There is a huge diffeence between well bred and show quality, and candidly I can tell you that two champions can easily produce a monstrosity,in show looks that is.Now it just happens I have one such,a mini bull boy with Champion parents,no oil painting,NO WAY,but in character he is PURE gold.I would never mind anyone criticising Paddie`s looks:eek:,because I know how valuable his kind of nature is,so you do the same!
After a very long time in the dog showing game I value a dog`s character quite separately from it`s show virtues or otherwise. In fact I advise any newbie to "just see your dog like a flower arrangement"...nothing personal in criticism ,to you it is still the best, but a judge will see it as a "speciman" of it`s breed.Quite different, and nothing to do with a piece of paper called a pedigree.:)
