Premier Equine Rugs

I like them, they are just rather expensive!! You can get 2 or 3 big rugs in the same quality denier for the same price as their multiple layer combos

If you like rugs with liners they are as good as any. I have the Buster Trio, but have decided I'm not a big fan of liners, due to the extra fastenings and bulk. I tend to only use the rug as a lightweight without the liners, and it's excellent. Good fit, waterproof and strong. I will use it with liners in the thick of winter if I'm short of heavyweights, but prefer my Rambo heavyweights given the choice.

Was considering one with the all the liner system etc. But I really like to have a spare rug for if they get really wet and sodden through. With this you only have one outer.
So for the cheaper I did some shopping around and got him a whole Autumn/winter wardrobe. No fill, 150g, 250g combo, 320g combo, stable rug, turnout hood and snuggy jam rug with turnout belly for a base layer. Have spares for all in case (mostly second hand) and means he only has to wear one rug with or without a fleece base layer, instead of all those bulky liners. And if he does rip one of his rugs (won't buy under 1200d so hopefully unlikely) then its no panic that he doesn't have a turnout that will work with the liners.

My neighbour swears by hers, she was saying she looks out for the offers in horse and hound. She got her two turnout rugs last year half price. :-)

I had look on their website other day and saw loads I would like.

They are great. I have the buster trio with liners and the 70x lightweight which can also be used with the liners so i have a spare outer rug if needed. He wore it all last autumn/winter and looks like new after a clean. I prefer the fit to the rambos as deeper and the neck covers are longer and have the elasticated top that stays put. Best rugs i've ever had.

Agree with Bay TB. I have three of their rugs, or is it four :D They last forever, no rips, no stitching falling apart or clips falling off. I got all mine when they have had a half price sale. Unless you have a really cold horse though, you would find their heavyweight, ie 450g only comes out in extreme weather. My lass was boiling in hers. I bought the 300g and that seems to suffice most of the winter. They really are a biffa rug.

Personally I wouldn't bother.

I went off all the rave reviews on here about them and bought one - the second day on the horse it rained and it leaked like a sieve.

On phoning PE they were not very helpful in the initial phone call - I could buy another one and send the original back and if it leaked they would refund me - but they advised that their rugs never leak.

I insisited it would be returned and I would not be paying for another and advised them I had photos of the inside of the rug and the wet liner.

Once it was returned they did refund my money and the cost of sending it back to them - so brownie points here - wouldn't have another one though - Rambo Duo or even the Rhino rug that you can put the liner in are much better.

You will now find lots of posts on here stating PE rugs leak.

How odd, nearly everyone on my yard has PE rugs and the only time they have leaked is torential rain which none of my rugs have managed to stand up to tbh.

My boys are great in theirs and one lives out all year round never a problem, he stays warm dry and amazingly they actually cover all my horses chests and shoulders. I have the liner one for my boy that lives in, got it quite cheap at the time and I bought a spare outer. I love the PE stuff I also find their jackets are fantastic, VERY WARM!! :)

I notice that this is an old blog; but it is still relevant. I have two buster rugs; one is the 300x and the other a 200 combo. My first combo was problematic - torrential rain penetrated. However, it is of fantastic quality otherwise and was promptly (as in sent email; rug collected NEXT DAY and replaced with new one...) dealt with. Their customer service is excellent. Jess is now wearing the 300x and I am contemplating getting another combo for my little companion who looks like the poor sister at the moment. Jess goes through (on average) two rugs in a winter season - this is the first season that she still has a rug on that hasn't been ripped to shreds or thoroughly trashed. With the facebook discount applied; this rug is really competitively priced, and of course you have the option of getting a lighter rug and building up the layers depending on the weather. I would say - if you can only afford one rug get this one.

I've got the buster trio and love it! I really like the liner system rugs. There are some people on here who seem to have had a bad experience with them but you can find a bad review on every rug! Like the rambo duos have tiny necks! But yeah I love my PE rug :D

I have the Rambo Duo and given the choice between the 2 brands, would choose the Rambo every time...Its now going into it's 7th Winter and is one of the original navy blue ones. Its the best rug I have every had without a doubt. A horse I used to look after had the navy Trio and it was nowhere near as good as the Rambo. It was very heavy when wet, the velcro didn't stay sticky over time and took forever to dry out whereas the Duo doens't. All I use extra to my Duo is the Amigo rain sheet, the original red one that just about everyone had when they came out. Both rugs wash and re-proof up like new every time, can't praise them enough!
