...trekking! :D

I’m going to go on a two day trekking spree around two weeks time – and call me mad but I have done only one day of trekking and OMG did my back, lower legs, ankles and knees ache! So with two days of trekking (each lasting 6/7 hours in the saddle with a pub stop in between, plus I also have my normal riding lesson on the third day and possibly another ride on the fourth day!) I was thinking if building up my fitness might help or if it’s just a case of not being used to being in the saddle for that long?

I managed quite well on the one day trek but it was only towards the last 1 or 2 hours that I really began to ache.

I was wondering if fitness is the answer also would running up hills / stairs help or be of any benefit (cycling and swimming are not options for me LOL)? Plus should I try my stirrup length a bit longer – not dressage length but longer than comfy length if you know what mean??

Any tips/advice please :)

P.S I only ride less than 2 hours a week

Anything you can do to improve your fitness will help. I always ride v long anyway but if out for hours I cross my stirrups. And take some radox & a hot water bottle for when you get off! Enjoy.

Ooh that sounds fun, I'm sure you'll have a great time!
Where abouts is it your riding? It's not Free Rein by any chance is it?
I rode with them a couple of years ago on a two day unguided trail across the Brecon Beacons. I had a brilliant time but it definately puts a strain on muscles/joints!
I would suggest having regular stops just to jump off for a minute or two and then get back on to stretch your joints out (I found I had to get off frequently to open gates anyway). I'd also recommend a knee/ankle brace if you suffer from pain in your joints at all as I have a really weak ankle and find it helps for long rides.
How you have a fabulous time!

No its Country Treks. If we have a breather I can take feet out of stirrups and have a leg stretch that way :p because we are in a group and time may be short if you what I mean LOL

Ah ok, I've not ridden with them but I'm sure you'll have a fab time!
That sounds like a plan :) we were lucky that we rode without a guide so could stop when we liked!
Hope you have a brilliant time, would love to see some pics when you get back :D
