This is the first Total Recall vid I have ever bought, and I'm really pleased with it the quality is a little degraded on my blog than on tv as I had to run the file through a media converter to get it on the web, but it's streets ahead of any wobbly hand held footage from a phone!
smile.gif

I bought the steeplechase, xc, and sj click here to go to my blog to see the videos

Despite my best efforts to try and look professional I simply can't keep my mouth shut and for some reason at the end of the steeplechase I start saying 'come on boy, come on' like some sort of deranged fat jockey!
blush.gif
SOOOOO embarrasing I swear I've never said that before in my life, but in my defense Karen Donkers is a big fan of the 'shout and growl' so I am passing it off as an homage to her
smile.gif
A few left behind moments from me in the S/C but we have never jumped anything at that pace before or off the wrong leg so much!!

The XC looks super slow after the steeplechase, look out for me loosing my pedal going towards the water, and an excessive amount of watch checking!
smirk.gif
Oh an approaching the water Soap suddenly sees fit to show me he CAN do flying changes! but quickly forgets how the next day in the SJing
confused.gif
strange critter

and finally the dreaded SJing. I hold my hands up I screwed up the final double big style, it's not pretty, but I think the rest of the round is pretty good, we have a slight difference of opinion over fence 8 off a manky dog leg and so that's not great. I am riding too defensively in the SJ but it's as a result of me really trying hard to concentrate on staying nice and upright, as moving just a few inches forward makes Soap rush on flat, and leads to me taking my leg off. I think I need to push my hands fwd more for a better crest release but compared to Highclere, and out other rounds this year it felt amazing.

CC please how do you think he looks? and me? do you think bootcamp paid off? and what do you think I should work on position wise?... and how far do you thiink he can go? I know that's a bit of an open question and hard to tell from 3 short vids, but my aim is to get him to Novice, so (honestly) do you think he can make it?...

oh I have been umming and ahhing about ordering mine from MK3Day.. I had a few teamchase ones last year and they are quite expensive!

Definately was worth it for you though! soap looks lovely!
He made nothing of the xc! def looks like he has more scope to come.. and he looked a little confused about the Steeplechase to begin with
'but mummy.. normally we slow down before a fence!' but he really got into it and you both looked fab!

erm CC wise.. the showjumping just looked like it lacked a little impulsion but tbh.. showjumping is my worst thing to.. so who am I to talk
wink.gif

I think if hes going that well round PN tracks I'm sure he'd have a fair crack at novice!!

oh and I really like your xc colours!

Great vids - I watched them all! I think you guys look great together, lots to like
smile.gif
The rhythm in all three is great, the partnertship looks very happy, your position is very secure (good lower leg), and if he's not sure XC he just has a little look and sorts himself out, and you don't hassle him (Normandy Bank
wink.gif
)

If you want any CC I would only add: Steeplechase - PMSL, you were both half asleep on the first circuit, so had to ride the second at full tilt (which must have been great fun
grin.gif
), you won't make that mistake again - and loving the Pullein-Thompson commentary at the end
grin.gif
grin.gif
XC: Lovely round, but personally I would have your stirrups a couple of holes shorter so your bottom is just a bit more out of the saddle between fences (applies to the 'chase too), also there's a bit of elbow action to back your legs up in a few places - it really doesn't help and can distract them! SJ: I thought it was a peachy round, difficult to see what happened at the last from that angle except it seemed to come up very quickly off the turn - could you have ridden a wider line to give yourself more straight strides to it?

There is no question in my mind that you guys could, in time, go Novice
smile.gif

Awww bless Soap, he looks like such a total dude, he was just chilling there at the start of the SC, and then you nudge, and zoooooom.... plus he is totally sexy, very jealous...

Thank you everyone

[/ QUOTE ] hahahaah that was me keeping him calm in the start box, but some times I over egg it and we both nod off
smile.gif
Yeah was mega fun, but we had to go some on the 2nd lap!!!

loving the Pullein-Thompson commentary at the end

[/ QUOTE ] I missed that, will have to have another listen ETS - Oh duur I get you now

[/ QUOTE ] hahahaha oh no you noticed 'the funky chicken' yeah horrid habit, but the message from my brain gets to my arms first, and legs second! will try to curb that

[/ QUOTE ] yeah I think I got a bit flustered and ruined the turn then saw a v deep spot, am working on lots of straight strides on the approach, helps him so much, and me

just watched them all, you both look great! lovely videos
laugh.gif
love how much you're grinning after the sj
smile.gif
i suspect you are laughing at your mistake at the last double?

lovley horse, you both looked very smart
laugh.gif
xx

Fab videos, you both look like you're having a great time.
laugh.gif

I'm really jealous actually
wink.gif
, am quite sad not to have a steeplechase to do this year. And if I can do Novice on a shortar5e borrowed cob, then I'm sure you two can get there too
grin.gif

Lisi - yeah they are pretty £££ I deff won't be buying them everytime but at is was our 1st 3day it was a treat
smile.gif

_Fran_ Thank you Fran, despite sleeping on a poo pillow each of the 3 nights I managed to scrub him up to look presentable!

dooratheexplora we are practised in the art of 'sleep to 60mph in 60 secs'
wink.gif

MandyMoo I think I was grinning about fences 1-9
smile.gif
and just so happy to have the same horse from the warm up to ride in the ring
smile.gif

CC agree about your stirrups in xc, you need to be up out of the saddle more and you just need a hole punch hopefully
grin.gif
Well done, great video although they normally put some gay classical music to it
wink.gif

[ QUOTE ]
ahhhahahah I'm glad we didn't get any naff music, but at the end of the XC on the actual vid you can hear the camera man humming a little ditty
smile.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm sure I heard a cough too
grin.gif

looking really good, that xc was obviously way too small for him!
CC... umm, i'd have had him walking around the whole time before the 'chase so that you could go into the box on "3" and straight on out, you started really flat-footed and he'd stood still so long he took a while to wake up, agree with TD! also, i'd put your stirrups up at least 1 hole, pref 2, for sc and xc. your bum should not touch the saddle unless you are sitting up coming to a fence, it looks as if yours touches the saddle slightly on every stride... i got a huge rollicking for that from someone very very good a while back! you should float above the saddle as you gallop.
agree about giving a bit more with your hands, a tad more crest release. this is nit-picking though because you both look very happy and competent.
last few 'chase fences were great, really meeting them out of your stride, perfect.
the fences definitely need to be bigger for him, and when they are you'll need him a bit more switched-on and forward off your leg. no reason at all he can't do PN easily and on to Nov.
sj - huge improvement, bootcamp definitely helped, if only because it gave you the belief that he could do it so you rode him more confidently, so he did do it (placebo effect kind of thing!) i think the way you rode number 8 (white upright) presaged the final double disaster, you rode very backward to it, just hopped it, then woke up and rode the next one much better (it HAS to be forward, even if it's slow and balanced, and a slightly long stride is not a problem, you didn't see a wild one to it!), if you'd given him a kick to keep him fwd i think he'd have made a much better job of it. real shame to end like that, when the rest was so good.

[/ QUOTE ] yeah we are itching to upgrade to prenov so the XC is more meaty but we just had to get our SJ on another stage, off to Moreton prenov next wkend, wish us luck

[/ QUOTE ] I will try a hole shorter tomorrow at the hunter trial eeeeeke! I know it does look like I come into the contact with the saddle a little but honestly I am conscious of not doing that, and only felt like I was sitting in the saddle when I should have been out of it up the sunken road, but I guess slightly shorter stirrups will stop that too, I'll give it a go

[/ QUOTE ] exactly that! believeing he can do it has helped immensely, will try to keep it fwd, my old issue was that I was too fwd, and maybe now I tend to be a bit backwards at time, I'll keep tabs on it

Love him standing on a loose rein in the SC start box.....he really is very laid back.

He looks very straight and honest XC (though before you considered novice I would like to see him take you into the fence a tiny bit more).

He jumped 'out of his stride' more towards the end of the course than the beginning. At the start he tended to shorten into the fence a little.

SJ is a vast improvement (ie he tried really hard) so I think your bootcamp was definitely justified.

He is a super chilled chap now but was a total horror 3 years ago straight out of racing!
smile.gif

Yeah I agree about being a bit stuffy and going on a short one xc over the initial fences I think that is similar to what Kerilli said I will need him to be sharper, and quicker to 'get into the zone' when the fences get bigger, but half of that is also me riding him that way atm as I know we don't need to be jumping out of our skin to get round a 90/1m track but I will keep in mind what we have to do when the bar is raised, and start working towards that
smile.gif

QR Only watched the Steeple chase one, but it looks hell of a lot better than mine did waaaaaay back in 2004! (I went in 2005 too but Total Recall weren't there
frown.gif
) My elbows at the end are flapping like a demented chicken!! I guess a bit like you I was thinking give him his head and encourage him from the last to the fence through to throught the 'gates' to the next phase! I must see if I can get it converted to photobucket and you'll see just how bad it can be!

The DVDs are a bit pricey, but a least once every few months I dig mine out and watch it again - especially, like now when we're off games, it makes me remember what we have done and I get a little lift that "may be one day...." I seem to recall that if you take the disc back to them they can add more footage to it, so it might be a fraction cheaper next time!

I love how at the SC startbox he is just sitting there chilling "just another day at the office"
He looks gorgeous through xc, really profesh (in my humble opinion)
SJ I thought you mostly kept a nice rhythm, could've been a bit more active but apart from the whoopsie at the last two, you were looking good.

Just watched all the vids and now running late(ooppss),All looks grt fun and good riding!! none of us r foot perfect!! all we can do is our best but it looked good to me,well done!!! urr very brave putting vids on here
grin.gif

Well done, that looked so much fun!
cool.gif

Which class were you doing (what height)? I was hoping to do one next year but unfortunately my horse fractured his pedal bone 6 weeks ago so May is definately out, but I'm hoping September may be a possibility.
