Hi all!

I was wondering if it is possible to do my BHS stages training privately and does anyone know someone who offers this. I currently work full time as well as owning a horse so unfortunately I don't have the time to go to a riding school/college to learn in the evenings.

I understand a lot of work would need to go into this but it is something I have always wanted to do and I am willing to put the time into completing this. I am currently stabled in Waltham Abbey and I am happy to travel, if anyone has any recommendations/experience doing this it would be much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

I did my stage 4 privately, it was possible but a bit of a faff organising to go ride horses such as Sj etc. I did have 5 days at Snainton with Charlotte Wilson to top it off.

For the lower exams it is more then possible, I have trained people to stage 2 privately. It is necessary to know how exactly the BHS want something done, I believe they do a video to show what is required. Personally I just bought the current exam requirements from the BHS, got a couple of "how to" books and worked from there.

If your general horse ability is there, then it is just about polishing up. Some lessons with a local BHS aware instructor should make sure you are ready to go, and treat the first time as a fact finding mission as well as an exam.

Good luck!

Yes lots of places train people privately for BHS exams. I run private BHS sessions for people like yourself. I'm based in Staffordshire so not much help to you though!

Try calling all your local BHS approved yards especially if they are exam centres. They should offer something to suit.

Good luck!

I am based near romford and happy to help you with stage 1 and 2 and ptt theory but for practical you will need to either arrange group lessons with friends or get help at a riding school to practise x
