Hi I hope someone can advise me on this. In the last 6 months my mum has rung the RSPCA in Ipswich 3 times regarding a large group of horses in a small field next to the A14 just before junction 53, but each time they do not appear to be interested.

Yesterday we drove past the field and for the first time I saw how many and how small the field was, it wasn't a field anymore, more like a very muddy bog!!!

The didn't appear to have any food, and last year some of them got onto the A14, caused a crash that killed a man and several of the poor ponies.

I just wondered if I needed to go to the field and maybe take photos, for the RSPCA to be interested, or whether horse welfare would be better?

My mum drives past this field regularly and said its been grass free for months, so I'd really like to help these poor ponies.

Any advice would be gratefully received

thank you

as above really...........been loads of threads about rspca not responding to horses in trouble try the other welfare organisations bhs and whw!

I think that these horses belong to the travellers camped nearby, and therefore those in authority are loathe to do anything...I would try the police, saying you fear another lot of carnage as happened last year. Definitely let WHW know, they seem to be the only horse rescue with any balls as far as I know, but I wait to be corrected.

Completely agree with the others, the RSPCA have been useless in my experience and I've heard lots of similar stories of them not acting until it's too late. Would also suggest WHW and BHS x

Forget the RSPCA this is their mo

contact Horse welfare

World Horse Welfare will help you out! Forget the RSPCA, I'm not against them, they do have there uses, but I've found a lot of other charities to be much more pro active and helpful.

Perhaps the RSPCA have checked and there isnt a problem?

Are the horses very thin? If they have been on mud for months and receiving no food they would surely be emaciated and sn obvious welfare case

Before getting another group involved maybe call the RSPCA and ask for feedback on action taken so far

Just a quick warning - if you contact WHW (or any other I assume) don't tell them you have contacted the RSPCA, they tend to leave it for RSPCA to deal with.
I must admit I called RSPCA about an emaciated pony who was down and in real trouble on Tuesday, and I stressed several times how urgent it was. Their inspector was there within an hour - maybe we were just lucky, by the time she left (after vet had been and PTS) she had numerous other calls awaiting her attention.
Perhaps you should lay it on a bit thick?
