my horse has a thumb size dent in his chest (hes an Irish sport horse) someone told me it was a profiters thumb print but i didn't know they could come on the horses chest is it possible?
thanks xD

My vet told me that they were really pulled and damaged muscles from when the horse was a foal.

I like to think they are thumb prints though, don't you?

I have heard them called Prophets thumb print or Tinkers thumb print and that horses that have them are quality animals! :)

I've had 2 horses with these (: My first pony - a complete devil actually, but did manage to teach me quite a bit (mostly how to stay on!) and Dante has one! He has his good moments too I guess :p I like them, for whatever strange reason! :)

The story goes......

A Prophet's Thumb Print is a dent in the horse's body, often occurring on the neck or chest. It is said that Mohammed once tested his Arabian horses by depriving them of water for several days. He then let them all free near a watering hole, and they rushed to drink. Before they reached the water, he sounded his trumpet to call them, and only 5 mares returned. These 5 loyal mares were cherished and kept for breeding, the only ones fit to pass on their bloodlines. It is said that he pressed his thumb into their necks, marking them. Horses with thumbprints are thought to be good horses.

Thats the story I have heard, one of mine has one and he is indeed rather special. pintoarabian that first horse on your siggy is AWESOME! ;-)

It's called a Prophet's thumb and I think it means something like the horse has been marked by god or some such. Either way, it's supposed to be lucky. Wonder what having 2 means...

I reckon its the mark of the devil :D:D:D:eek:
Mine has one on each side  and is definately a devil :)

Lastchancer, that horse is It's Showtyme, stallion imported from Canada as a weanling. That pic appeared on the cover of a well-known equestrian magazine a few years ago. We are very proud of him. :D

My MGA pony had it.
I was told it was a sign of a class pony. But if you look at it from middle age thinking it would be a mark of a devil.

He was certainly a little devil but was very talented at his job. :)

Is this one? :o

My homebred filly has a Prophet's Thumb but it was caused by her getting kicked hard by mt colt so I go along with the earlier poster who mentioned muscle damage in a foal.

My first mare had one

in the 70's it was said that horses marked with the prophet thumb print were special to this day I believe it as she was
