PTS - huge & hard decision

I am so sorry the time has come BUT you have already done the very hardest part; you have made the decision. Your horse is lucky to have such a responsible owner.
Having had several horses pts by both methods, my experience is that the bullet is better for the horse. Both the hunstman and the knackerman here bring a bucket with some tasty molassed mix to offer and the horses always go with a mouthful. The only thing they know is that a nice man has brought them a tasty meal, of a type that they haven't had for years.

I have had both a Section A and a big ID fight the injection; and a 16.3 ID standing up on her back legs, wobbling around is not something I would ever want to risk again. They really know absolutely nothing about it with the bullet. Yes, there is a small amount of blood but it truly is very little, in fact I think the ID bled more from the canula.

I don't want my horses to die wondering what is happening to them.

Whatever you decide, remember you are doing the best thing for your horse because she can't go through another winter and try to take some comfort from that.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and thoughts. You really helped me with this difficult decision.

All the arrangements have been made, this Thursday is the day for my girl to go over the rainbow bridge. I will be spending as much of Wednesday with her as I can and have agreed with YO that I won't be there on Thursday.

I've decided that a quick bullet will be the way and she will have an individual cremation so she can come home and be with me. I know some people will find keeping her at home a bit odd and I did too when I first looked into the options but the need to do it just came into my head about a week ago and so that's what I'm going to do.

This is going to be a hard week but I know it's the right time now and what I need to do for my best friend.

I'm very glad for you that you have decisions made and can now just concentrate on your last special days with your lovely girl.

Huge hugs and above all...know how kind you are being. xxx

I have the vet booked for an old girl on Wednesday so I will be thinking of you then and hoping that the sun shines so that you can enjoy your day together.
